Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina H.
Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My family and I moved to Utah from the Midwest in May 2023 after some serious soul-searching and realizing we didn’t want to wait until retirement to live our dreams of adventuring in the mountains.
Instead, we wanted to live our dreams WITH our kids and show them the importance of pursuing happiness and adventure. My husband and I packed up our 2 little boys and our dog and we hit the road!
We’ve been on the hiking trails every weekend since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our move and adjustment to Utah has been a fairly smooth road.
Of course, we miss our family and friends in the Midwest, but we know wholeheartedly that moving out West was the right call for us. We feel like we can raise our kids and live our lives the way we want to – outdoors with mountain views!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Shortly after moving to Utah, I quit my corporate job to focus all of my efforts on raising my boys. At the end of August 2023, I started an Instagram account @scrunchymountainmom to inspire moms to adventure outdoors with their kids! I specialize in adventure tips, inspiration, and thoughts on motherhood.
I love talking about adventures in motherhood and the motherhood adventure itself. What sets me apart from others is my story and our big life change of moving our family across the country where we didn’t know anyone. We don’t take any of our adventures for granted. We used to go on adventure trips once per year, and now it’s at least once per weekend.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
We utilize the AllTrails app quite a bit! It’s been very helpful in finding kid-friendly trails where we can research the length and elevation. The ability to download trail maps has also been super helpful when we don’t have a cell signal!
Additionally, Ash Nudd from @dirtinmyshoes on Instagram has been an incredible resource for National Park updates and important information to know about the parks. We listen to her podcasts often on our road trips!
