Daily Inspiration: Meet Mariah Milán

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Milán.

Mariah Milán

Hi Mariah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I always felt that I was an artist, but didn’t know that I could turn my passion for moments into a career. After high school and during college, I took the standard career path and put my creativity to the side, until my sweet co-worker asked me to take her pregnancy photos.

Back then, I shot 35mm film and I had to get them developed by a film developer. The developer asked if they could display them in the front window, and from there, my creative career took off. My photographic career has now spanned over two decades.

I’ve been honored to mentor young photographers as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a small business always has some struggles along the way. In my field, we never stop learning and growing – and burnout is real. Adding motherhood to the mix means it was very easy to feel as if the candle was burning from both ends.

It took me years to learn to create boundaries and balance in my life – and that made a huge difference professionally as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional photographer, but more than that, a visual storyteller. I have been incredibly lucky to connect with clients that fly me all over the country to document their moments. In a way, I feel like stopping time is my superpower.

I have a talent for finding beauty anywhere. My specialty is in capturing relationships – both romantic love and the love between parents and children.

What do you think about happiness?
There are so many things that make me happy! From the sound of my dogs running across the house to see me when I wake up, to good morning kisses from my husband, the sound of my teenagers yelling “love you Ma!” as they zoom out the door… these moments make me smile and genuinely happy.

Professionally, my clients make me incredibly happy. I have met so many incredible people in my career that value my work and I’ve been fortunate to see so many families grow!
