Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark & Toni Patterson. Them and their team share their story with us below:
When Toni was in middle school her mom was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma skin cancer. Because of this, protecting their skin has always been a top priority in her life. Ma’Kai Sunless started after many conversations with people who were looking for a safe natural way to have a great tan without damaging sun exposure. Ma’Kai has and is continuing to evolve into a family that empowers, loves, and tans those of all shapes, sizes, and skin tones.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When it comes to entrepreneurship, the more you know, the more you don’t know. It has not always been an easy road but it has been a fun one. We learned in our first year that it isn’t always better to hire out for marketing/website building/etc even though it’s difficult to learn all new skill sets, it’s worth it in the long run. We also learned that understanding your business is key to staying on top of it because you can’t expect others to give it the same effort and attention that you do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mark (goes by Patt) Patt went to school for business and has worked at marketing agencies as well as having his own creative media company. Because of this, he is able to do the creative portion of Ma’Kai. Everything from building the website, to all of our photography/videography, and storytelling is done by him!
Toni- Has a background in physical therapy and is a girls girl. Because of this she has a great love for health and wellness and is always looking to empower women to be their best selves. She has studied women’s health, pediatrics, and many other things that go into human development & care. She is also the owner of TanBody, an airbrush tanning studio located in St. George.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Toni was raised in central Utah where she spent a lot of her time in the mountains, canyoneering, camping, and going on wheeler rides with her sisters. A favorite memory is taking my mom’s jeep out with the top off and blasting music.
