Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Cook
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had a love for photography but was too shy to put myself out there until I had my baby. As much as I love her, after I had her I felt like I had lost myself. I didn’t have anything that was just mine to bring me joy. I bought a camera and just started practicing and learning as much as I could. I would photograph my baby, my dogs, any family member that would allow me to, until I felt comfortable enough to open it up to clients. I still have so much to learn and am hoping to grow my business more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If everything was easy we would all be pros. There is still a lot to learn and I have definitely struggled. Confrontation is hard for me, there was a photoshoot that a family wasn’t happy with and I had to swallow my pride and redo the shoot. But it taught me a lot.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Right now I just do photography on the side of my full time job, but I’m hoping to grow it and have it possibly become my job. Right now I’m just doing small sessions like families, couple, portraits, engagements. But I hope to expand with the more experience I get and eventually do weddings! I am most proud of the courage and dedication it takes to open yourself up to the community. I am a perfectionist and will try to make sure you have the best time at the shoot! I also try to keep the prices inexpensive, photos last a lifetime and everyone deserves to have some to look back at.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Rejection happens and don’t take it personal. People will reach out for quotes and they might not end up going with you but that’s not because you are bad. Someone else just might fit their style or budget better.
