Daily Inspiration: Meet Olya Lane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olya Lane

Hi Olya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Russia, and from a young age, I have been interested in all kinds of arts and crafts.
In my 20s, I immersed myself in the study of history at university, yet my heart always found solace in painting and drawing during my free time. Though I initially ventured down a different professional path, it was my move to the United States in 2015 that called me back to my true artistic passions, allowing me to reconnect with the creative spirit that had always lived within me. But it didn’t happen right away.
When my son was born in 2017, I found myself searching for my true purpose in life. I yearned to discover a way to both support my family and remain by my little boy’s side, cherishing every moment together.
After exploring various careers and paths, in 2019, I prayed for guidance and received the answer: to pick up my brushes once more. It was beautiful aha moment.
I began painting again, initially with acrylics. Although I sold my first painting almost right away, I found myself unsatisfied with both the process and the results. Then, I decided to explore oil painting—and with each stroke, I fell deeply in love with the medium.
Since then, I’ve felt truly blessed to wake up each day and indulge in the joy of doing what I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road for sure. At first, I was conflicted about pursuing art. I had a strong desire to paint and create, but I was also afraid of failing.
Painting landscapes was challenging for me at the start, mainly due to a few key factors: composition, perspective, value, and color. Unlike simpler subjects, landscapes have many elements to consider, making the composition more complex. I had to carefully think about how to arrange everything in a way that felt balanced and natural. On top of that, perspective posed its own challenges. Learning to capture atmospheric perspective was tricky. Each element required attention and practice, and it took time to understand how to make everything come together in a realistic way.
Another challenge I faced was navigating the world of making art and managing social media. While creating art was deeply fulfilling, sharing it online felt like a whole different skill set. I struggled with finding the balance between showcasing my work and engaging with an online audience. The pressure to constantly post, stay relevant, and maintain a presence was overwhelming at times. I found myself torn between dedicating time to my craft and trying to keep up with the demands of social media platforms, all while staying true to myself as an artist.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is inspired by the natural beauty of Western landscapes, which continually spark my creativity. I aim to capture the calm and awe-inspiring feeling these places bring, allowing viewers to experience the greatness and peace of nature. Through my paintings, I hope to transport others into the serene beauty of these breathtaking scenes.
My hope is that my art can bring joy, peace, and happiness into people’s hearts, offering them a moment of calm and reflection in their busy lives. I want my paintings to create a sense of connection with nature and evoke the simple beauty that often goes unnoticed in the world around us. Whether it’s the tranquil hues of a sunset or the quiet stillness of a mountain landscape, I hope my work reminds viewers of the serenity that exists in nature and within themselves. Ultimately, I aspire for my art to be a source of comfort, a visual escape that uplifts and nurtures the soul.
I believe what sets me apart is simply being true to myself. Each of us is unique in our own way, and as an artist, I try to embrace what makes me different. Every artist or writer brings something special to the world—something that only they can offer. It’s not just about technique or style, but about the personal experiences, emotions, and perspectives we share through our work. My hope is that by staying authentic, I can offer something that resonates with others in a way that is both genuine and meaningful.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In a time when technology is advancing so quickly and AI is becoming a big part of our lives, I hope that human creativity will still have its place and be valued. While machines can help in many ways, there is something special about the unique expression and emotions that come from human hands and minds. I believe that art, writing, and all forms of creative work made by people will continue to matter, offering something that technology can’t replicate—the personal touch, the heart, and the soul behind each creation.
