Daily Inspiration: Meet Shauna Sampson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Sampson.

Shauna Sampson

Hi Shauna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started with my Dutch Shepherd, Asani. I got her almost 6 years ago, when she was 8 weeks old shipped to me here in Utah from the East Coast. Her parents imported ph1 dogs from Holland. It all began with her. I worked in the vet industry at the time, but slowly with her help got more into the working dog world (particularly detection).

I’ve since travelled across the world learning from and working with world renowned detection trainers in the USA, Europe, and South Africa. Much of which she’s travelled with me for. We now work for private security doing bomb detection work, as well as for an environmental statistical company doing wildlife detection for conservation. I love being her handler. She’s made my dreams come true. We are based in Utah just outside of Salt Lake City, but travel much for work and also work with a variety of working dog people here in Utah.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Getting into the industry without LEO or Military background was difficult.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are part of an explosives detection k9 team, working for private security at events like NBA games, NHL games, concerts, and more.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Don’t believe the government blindly.
