Daily Inspiration: Meet Tommy Justice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Justice.

Tommy Justice

Hi Tommy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since I was a child, I always loved cars. I used to enjoy my time at the car dealership every time my Dad bought a new car for the family. I loved the smell of the new cars, the beautiful new models, the new colors, and pretty much, everything about being at the dealership.

After college, I went into the IT field. When Y2K happened, I found myself looking for new employment. I took what I thought was a temporary job at the time in automotive sales at my local Mercedes-Benz dealership in Georgia. Little did I know that over 20 years later, I would still be enjoying a wonderful career in the automotive field.

I have always had a special place in my heart for German cars and spent over 10 years with Mercedes-Benz, several years with BMW, and now almost a decade with the brand I have loved my entire life… Porsche. I have made many friends and have been able to help lots of people acquire their dream car during my career. Seeing people leave happy with awesome automobiles is what fuels my passion every single day.

I have served almost every position in the automotive industry from working in the car wash when I was in High School to General Manager. I am very happy to have joined the team at Porsche Salt Lake City on June 1, 2023, serving as General Sales Manager.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
The path was not always smooth. The recession hit in 2007, and Mercedes sales were almost nonexistent. We had to find new ways to adapt and overcome many obstacles during that time frame.

I always tell my team if they have been in this business for over four years, you have the equivalent of a Ph.D. in Psychology. Having a career in this profession requires severe mental fortitude. Some of the most awesome, honorable people I have met in my 55 years have been in the automotive business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One of the things that set me apart from other managers is my ability to create winning teams. In previous positions, I have given people chances at extreme success, with little or no experience.

I feel that by finding someone with a good moral foundation you can mold them into someone extraordinary. I am still in touch on a very frequent basis with many people I’ve hired in the last 20 years of being in this business.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
To me, the most important thing is to associate yourself with good people.

Always be learning and trying to be a better version of yourself every day. I tell my team that if we can be one percent better than the person we were yesterday, in no time we will be superheroes.
