Daily Inspiration: Meet VAL ACOSTA

Today we’d like to introduce you to VAL ACOSTA.

Hi VAL, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born in the vibrant heart of Mexico City, I grew up in a home where creativity danced freely. As a child, I imagined my family’s living room as a stage and art gallery—my toys the audience, my cousins the collectors of my early masterpieces. Those playful beginnings sparked a lifelong passion. Moving from city to city, my curiosity deepened. In high school, I grew more aware of social issues and dreamed of becoming a changemaker—at one point even considering law. But something inside me yearned for color, sound, and emotion.

A year in France would change everything. In the shadow of depression, art and music became my lifelines. Painting, singing, and yes—crying—reminded me of who I was. That journey led me to study visual arts, art history, and later, art therapy.

Since then, I’ve broken barriers as a young woman artist: solo exhibitions at 19, my own gallery at 21, international showcases, and workshops on art and music therapy in Mexico and the U.S.

Now, I’m venturing into music, writing songs with soul—lyrics that invite us to grow, connect, and heal. I believe heart-driven music can change lives and shatter the limits set on artists like me. And I’m just getting started.

Stay tuned for the future shows, conferences and workshops in Utah to feel inspired aswell.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a teenager, one of my deepest struggles was feeling lost, alone, and without purpose. I looked around and saw little inspiration in my peers or surroundings. Yet, something within me—a quiet curiosity and intuition—kept whispering that life had to be more than the superficial and material. I craved depth, meaning, and a sense of spirituality. In those darkest moments, my most faithful companions were music and art.

They helped me navigate the silence, the sadness, and the search for self. That’s why I’ve dedicated years to studying art therapy—because I believe in its power to heal. Today, I use what I’ve learned to help others facing depression, anxiety, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life. Art saved me, and now I hope it can be the spark that brings light to others too.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m often described as a sensitive, curious, and enthusiastic soul, constantly weaving connections between nature, life, and art. As an abstract painter, I’ve developed a unique technique using sand and earth collected from around the world, grounding my art in the raw beauty of our planet. As a singer-songwriter, I create heartfelt songs with uplifting lyrics that remind us of who we are, where we come from, and why we’re here. My music speaks of self-love, faith, purpose, and the joy of life’s simple moments.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
To all the parents out there: listen to your children with your heart. In a world that often pulls us away from ourselves, help guide them back to their heart. Sometimes, the games we play as children carry clues to our true purpose on Earth.

And to anyone who has a dream—or is still searching for one—never let fear or others’ doubts hold you back. When you connect with the love within you, you unlock the power to transform your world. I truly believe in your potential. And if you ever need a reminder, let my music be that spark to reignite your light.
