Daily Inspiration: Meet Will and Amy Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will and Amy Wilson.

Hi Will and Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our family has been in the meat business for six generations. We have operated shops in Washington, Oregon, California, and for the last 40 years in Utah. My wife (Amy) and I moved from Ogden and opened our store at 6245, S. Highland Drive in 1992.

We are truly a family business with our children Rachael and Jake now helping to run the shop. Sniders is an award-winning business, been named Salt Lake Cities’ best Meat Market for many years. Our recipe for success is very simple “Quality, service, and selection”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Those first years were very difficult, but with perseverance, hard work, and dedication to our vision our Salt Lake Store is very successful today. We are very much a throwback business when we opened the public was not accustomed to shopping at stores like ours.

Big box, one-stop shopping was all the rage. It took many years to build a clientele, and we earned our customer’s trust one at a time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started working weekends and summers in my grandfather’s meat market at the age of 12. One of the things I am most proud of is providing a place for our employees to work, where they are treated with respect and kindness.

I think that directly relates to how they treat our customers. Everyone who walks through our door is going to be treated with respect and courtesy.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
They called me the Burger King because one of my first jobs was grinding ground beef.
