Daily Inspiration: Meet Zealand Gasu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zealand Gasu.

Hi Zealand, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Patriot for the under-represented and the under-privileged. I like to read books so I can acquire further knowledge and wisdom. Prayer is my favorite way to express myself to the spiritual realm. I like to write, and record the things that I have learned for future reflection and teaching. I enjoy listening to music and appreciating the stories told of those whom have rose above situations, that are typically unheard of. I’m currently fighting for justice in the state of Utah, Pro Se(Independently Represented). I am huge on skateboarding, snowboarding, and would love to learn how to surf in the ocean better. As far as inspirational leaders and individuals I have had. I am grateful for all of them! My parents are and have always had a big influence on my up bring, but I choose everyday to further my character as I go throughout this journey we call life. I love my siblings as well! I am an individual who is humble and stands up for what is right, legally, and morally. There is a lot of wicked upon this earth. And deciding for one’s self what they want to do, to me is very courageous in my perspective. It’s probably what I would consider someone to practice, authentic independence. My up bring wasn’t the easiest, and life in general is not easy. But I have learned that instead of praying for an easy life, I shall pray and build upon a life that can make me stronger.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life’s journey has not been a smooth road. I have learned that by personal experience. I think that of itself is why we can become so much more than what we may be now, or even what we may have been before. Some of the struggles in life that I( a twenty-six year old), have faced may be worse or even better than what anyone else may have had to face in their personal journey. I don’t think it’s my place to compare other’s situations or journey to mine. It’s called, ‘a personal journey’. Being a Modern American today has it’s blessings and curses. There are a lot of things that I want to accomplish, and as I go, I realize that only with time, patience, humility, strength, and desire. I can achieve such greatness.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently working on competing in the Winter Olympics representing the Pacific Islands of Samoa, and as a dual athlete. As I do so, I have realized that it is very challenging to take upon such task. Especially when the competition or even the community I am expected to present myself in, or against, is very peculiar and different than what I have had to learn in, and about. I am determined to get it! I have a desire to accomplish everything I work on to the best of my ability. Again, I am grateful for the teachers, and leaders I have had in my life. I’m grateful for family. Without them, I don’t think I would be the same individual I am today. Which, I would consider myself pretty interesting. As far as aside from being an Olympian, I am currently studying law, reading tons and tons of books, and written records, I’m saving as much money as possible with a balance of enjoying life, I like to exercise, watch movies, flirt with strangers, and am working on myself to become the best husband to a future wife. I’ve always liked the saying, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice”. I am constantly learning more everyday. I think if you’re not learning anything, you might be doing it wrong.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Ooh, the most important lesson I have learned so far. Is to treat others the way you would like to be treated.
