Today we’d like to introduce you to Stanley Beck.
Hi Stanley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve been a serial entrepreneur my whole life. When I was on vacation with my boys at Bryce Canyon, I stayed at a glamping site nearby. I loved the idea of it.
Getting the chance to camp out in nature, but not have to carry or set up all the camping gear, sleep on comfortable mattresses and linens rather than on the floor in a tight sleeping bag, and having tons of room in the tent was just quite simply the best of all worlds. This made me think that there was a real opportunity here for so many people who love camping in nature but don’t want to deal with the shortfalls of a regular camping experience.
I then researched all the best equipment to have to be able to set up the kind of experience I’d want when camping, and tested it out with some friends who all loved it! I then made a deal with Jordanelle State Park and now word is starting to spread that this is available near Park City.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes, it’s been smooth. The only difficulty has been trying to find the right locale where I could do this and of course, marketing is always a bear.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gypsy Glamps?
We create the ultimate glamping experience in Jordanelle State Park campgrounds. We like to say,” Rooted in Nature, Wander in Spirit”. We hope to provide customers with every little thing, so they can go make the most memories.
Our camp pioneers low-impact infrastructure and natural landscaping that help sustain rural and wild properties while providing guests with opportunities to explore the natural beauty of their surroundings. We want to honor the roots of camping and give our guests a true outdoor experience, to fall asleep to bullfrogs and wake with the birds; to experience the sound of rain on canvas and stargaze by the warmth of the campfire.
We invite our guests to relax in the natural beauty of our camps in a way that feels easy, comfortable, and clean while inspiring a sense of adventure and novelty for first-time campers. This is what our Brand is becoming to be known for. Every bed is thoughtfully made with comfy luxury sheets, pillows & duvets for a blissful rest.
Here’s a little something about our tents. They are 256 sq. ft. and 10′ high at the center. High-quality, canvas bell tents intentionally decorated to provide a fully immersive boho, luxury experience. Curated, eclectic decor. Plush morrocan rugs cover the floor providing a cozy atmosphere under the warm playful Solar Edison bulbs.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I’ve rarely worked for anybody throughout my life. That’s quite simply because I never found a boss who would treat and pay me the way I felt I deserved.
So starting my own business, allowed me to make any decision I thought was best. Now this did put all of the burden of success squarely on my shoulders. That certainly can be stressful at times but exhilarating also. There can be no excuses. Do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, or else fail. And failure means not having an income.
When I was young that wasn’t a huge risk on the downside, but once I had a family of my own, that kicked up the stress during difficult times 10 fold. I think risk is an important part of life. People need to take risks. Whether it’s in business, sports, or love. That’s what pushes boundaries and increases the quality of everyone’s life.
