Today we’d like to introduce you to Addison Hildebrandt.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since I was a little kid, I loved entrepreneurship! I was the little kid who sell soda pop at my sister’s softball games. It was so much fun!
Then as I got older, I went from selling my mom’s CDs of her singing to mowing lawns to power washing trash cans to pay for my mission for my church.
A year after I got back from my mission I was working for my mom, putting in 80-100 hour work weeks, and I looked in the mirror and said, “if I don’t start dating, I’m never gonna get married.” So I started thinking about ways to meet people and BOOM…why don’t I start up a country dance hall?! It was kind of random. And, what do you know, my first head instructor ended up being my wife!
Here we are, 4 years later, we have 2 kids and we just opened up our 2nd location. Our vision is to bring friendship to the whole country by having 100 dance halls around the country by 2030! And hopefully, many more guys & girls can meet their future wives or husband through Heart of Country Swing!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No way! I think if anyone has a smooth road, they’re not pushing themself hard enough haha!
Here are just a few examples:
1. When I had my trash can washing business, I was so focused on making money that it ended up consuming all my thoughts. I was miserable for months. Until finally, one day, an epiphany came and said, “it’s NOT about the money.” Then I started looking for what it was about: the people I was serving, sales skills, learning hard work, etc.
2. All growing up I did EVERYTHING myself. I didn’t like help from others. My mantra was: “If you want to do something right, do it yourself.” Well, that made scaling our business impossible. I had to learn how to work with other people and that was very difficult. It’s taken years and we still have a long way to go. We now have 20 employees and love them all to death!
3. Lastly, the first year of business was ruff! During that time, I got married & had a kid on the way. I was living off the business completely and financially going month to month. There were several months that we scraped by. It was very terrifying.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Heart of Country Swing?
Heart of Country Swing is all about helping people have wholesome fun & make friends! There aren’t many places around the country for young people to go and meet other people. Sure, you can go to a bar or nightclub but there are lots of people that don’t feel comfortable there. That’s why Heart of Country Swing is so unique.
We have 2 locations currently, one in St George UT, and one in Lehi UT. We hold weekly country dances every Tuesday. First-timers are welcome! We have a class from 7-8 PM specifically for those who don’t know how to dance or want to learn more moves.
Then our dance is from 8 PM-12 AM.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way for people to support or collaborate is to come out to Heart of Country Swing and invite your friends! It’s such a blast!
Next, you can bring your church groups, school clubs, and organizations out to Heart of Country Swing and enjoy yourselves!
