Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Whitney.
Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I found Muay Thai in Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. My friends invited me to some local fights and I fell in love. It took me a few months to work up the nerve to start training in the gym now known as SLC Muay Thai. I had no idea this would completely change my life.
SLC Muay Thai is a brand I created while managing the gym in 2018. Later, in 2021, I would become the sole owner of the business. Since 2019, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Jake Paul, Snake Pit MMA, who has shared the space and contributed to the development of our striking program.
We are excited to see where the future takes us!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We had unexpected challenges right off the bat. With the initial change in ownership, intended to be a partnership, things became uncertain when the original owner jumped ship without warning. I am deeply grateful to those in our community who supported the operation through those difficult transitions.
Then came a global pandemic; which, as everyone knows, was a huge struggle for small businesses everywhere. We poured into the business to keep it afloat. Things got scary! I am thankful we made it. I feel blessed and honored to witness the growth of our community and see SLC Muay Thai continue to expand and thrive today.
As you know, we’re big fans of SLC Muay Thai. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At SLC Muay Thai, we believe that Martial Arts training is for everyone. Our mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages individuals from all walks of life to see for themselves how Muay Thai and MMA can enhance their lives.
Our coaches have several combined decades of experience to ensure that you develop practical skills and habits that serve you well in your practice. Sign up for a free trial anytime at www.slcmuaythai.com!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe our commitments to community and inclusivity are the keys to our success.
Our community members often express that SLC Muay Thai is their “happy place”. What could be better than that!? I love that people love to be here.
