Exploring Life & Business with Amanda Hildebrand of Witches Brew Coffee Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Hildebrand.

Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I currently own two businesses in Davis County, UT; In Perfect Balance Bookkeeping and Witches Brew Coffee Company.

After building a career within the high-stress industry of HOA Management, I left my job in October of 2021 and in January of 2022 I opened In Perfect Balance Bookkeeping. It allowed me to continue doing everything I loved in my previous role – financial administration, teaching people how to understand their financials, and helping small business owners build successful, profitable companies – all while giving me more freedom in my own schedule to take care of my family and myself.

In a moment of Serendipity, a local coffee roaster became my second client. I remember in my very first phone call with her, telling her that my husband and I had once dreamed of owning our own coffee shop and roaster in Las Vegas many years ago. That dream had never come to fruition, but it was still something that we reminisced about on occasion. A “what if” story in our life.

That roaster is still my client to this day and I’ve built a successful bookkeeping firm based on my sincerity, honesty, and genuine love of business. When I realized the majority of my clients were small coffee shops, my intention became rebranding and creating a firm that solely serviced the coffee industry. However, a nudge (from the Universe or the Instagram Algorithm I’m not sure) made me start considering a coffee shop again. A brick and mortar location seemed out of reach, but I kept getting Instagram ads for companies that built or refurbished trailers for mobile beverage businesses. My husband, Mike, and I had always wanted to have a shop that was built around community and a place for people to gather, but we both were intrigued by the idea of starting small – so in November of 2024 the dream of owning a coffee shop took root once more and Witches Brew Coffee Company was born. We just opened our mobile trailer in August of this year. While I do still enjoy helping owners navigate owning their own business, there has been a huge shift in what fulfills me in the last month. Being able to bring more creativity into my work, make drinks that make people smile, and be part of people’s every day routine brings me such joy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think owning a business is ever a smooth road. There are always struggles or hurdles. With In Perfect Balance, being a business owner for the first time definitely had challenges. Coming from work environments that praised output of work and keeping clients happy regardless of the toll it had on you personally, it was really hard to allow myself to have a less hectic schedule and not place value on how much (or how little) I was working. I also struggled with knowing how much to pay myself and how to structure my business in a way that kept me paid and not overworked. I found the Profit First Method within a few weeks of owning my business, put it in place, and never looked back. It has helped me tremendously – so much that I nearly built my firm on teaching other business owners how to use it in their own businesses.

Now, with two companies (and a third concept brewing) I have a whole new struggle. Working too often and being close to burn out. This entire year has been about getting Witches Brew up and running. I have a whole new appreciation for the owners of restaurants and other service-based businesses. We hit several snags in the construction of our trailer that left us without approvals from the health department, had an accident with the trailer and needed repairs, all causing us to keep pushing back our opening date. We finally were able to open – two weeks late. We’ve only been open one month, so we’re also working through those tough spots of being a business in its first year – cash flow, when to be open, how we can run a business based on our values and still make money. The usual stuff!

I’m still navigating being the owner of two businesses with very different schedules and demands. Juggling the duties of both, because I still do most of the work in my bookkeeping business and have clients to serve. Not to mention having a thirteen year old still at home, a husband that I’d like to talk about something other than work with, and wanting to fit in some self care. LOL

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Witches Brew Coffee Company?
Witches Brew Coffee Company is a mobile coffee trailer serving up more than just a caffeine fix. We specialize in handcrafted creations for people that love coffee. Rooted in community, we source from local businesses where possible and donate 3% of non-event sales back into the community through donations to local Utah charities, with a focus on those servicing Davis County. Our brand is not just a cute theme; it is a way for us to share our way of life with others. From seasonal flavors that highlight the Earth’s cycles, to our signature drink menu based on the elements, we’re here to spark connection and prove that coffee tastes even better when brewed with intention. Coffee is a ritual that can feed both the spirit and the soul and we are so grateful to be a part of that everyday ritual for many.

Our adorable purple trailer operates daily in Farmington on Shepard Lane, next to Burt Brothers. We are also available for private events – we can bring the trailer to you or have catering options available. We look forward to furthering our goal of connection and community by holding events – drum circles at the trailer and crafting lessons such as Yule Logs in the winter season, among others.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I don’t think so!
