Exploring Life & Business with Amber Drake of Drake Dog Cancer Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Drake

Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Family is absolutely at the heart of everything for me; they’re my compass, always guiding my decisions and priorities. But I can’t downplay how important my career is too. We spend so much of our time working—away from our families—that it’s crucial to love what you do. That passion isn’t just about job satisfaction; it’s about making a difference, leaving a mark on the world.

The journey to my dream career started when I graduated college at the age of 16 and began attending the local community college. Back then, I had the ultimate goal of becoming a veterinarian. What I didn’t realize at the time is that I had more of a passion for the holistic side of medicine than the traditional side.

Following community college, I attended college for a number of years ultimately earning two doctorates: Doctor of Education and Traditional Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. I am now completing a PhD in Clinical Herbalism. Honestly, I can’t see myself ever stopping; there’s always something new to learn, always a way to stay current and innovative in my field..

My career officially started as an Adjunct Instructor of Biology right back at the community college where it all began. A few years later, I took a leap and started my own business focusing on canine behavior, but with a twist—I wanted to integrate holistic medical practices. Today, I run a business that helps dogs and their owners, either preventing cancer or incorporating holistic therapies into existing treatments.

I also educate people on natural healing methods. Sharing this knowledge to help families stay happy and healthy is something I’m deeply passionate about.

Life hasn’t been just about my career and education though. It’s been a roller coaster of personal experiences too. I’ve been through two deeply painful divorces and a list of medical problems, almost dying from one of them. I’ve been blessed with two children, adopted another, and then met the love of my life, who brought three wonderful kids into our blended family. Throughout all of these life events, I continued to pursue my passions.

Through all these ups and downs, both my family and career have shaped who I am today—someone who’s deeply committed to healing, learning, and helping others live their best lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout my journey, every step has come with its own set of challenges. From academic pressures to personal trials, the path has been anything but smooth.

There have been moments of uncertainty and times when the obstacles seemed insurmountable. These experiences, though difficult, have taught me resilience and the importance of perseverance. Each hurdle has been a learning opportunity, helping me to grow stronger and more adaptable.

Whether it was navigating the complexities of further education, managing the intricacies of starting and running a business, or dealing with personal hardships, each phase of my life has tested my resolve and pushed me to evolve.

As you know, we’re big fans of Drake Dog Cancer Foundation. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Drake Dog Cancer Foundation is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of canine cancer through education and research. The mission of DDCF emphasizes not just early detection but true prevention of cancer in dogs. The foundation focuses on providing high-quality educational resources that are scientifically verified to help reduce cancer risk.

For dogs that are already diagnosed, the foundation offers individualized support and emphasizes an integrative approach to treatment, including diet, lifestyle adjustments, and both conventional and alternative therapies.

Educational outreach extends through materials for cancer prevention, free counseling for diagnosed dogs, professional training for those in the canine health field, and public seminars and conferences. These initiatives are highlighted by a commitment to offering resources that are affordable and supported by the community, avoiding the typically high costs often linked to specialized content.

This approach ensures that dog owners and professionals can receive the latest information on both holistic and conventional cancer care strategies without breaking the bank.

What makes you happy?
My family brings me immense happiness. If I could have one dream realized, it would undoubtedly be to become a mother and create my own family. They are the driving force behind all my endeavors; they’re why I work diligently and never allow myself to quit. My children, including my stepchildren, are the centerpiece of my life. They inspire my every action and give profound meaning to my daily efforts. Having a family has fulfilled a deep personal aspiration and continues to enrich my life every day.
