Exploring Life & Business with Amberlee Shuler of Inspiration Haven Art Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amberlee Shuler

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been passionate about art since I was a child and have always loved painting, drawing, and creating. In high school, I took many art classes including photography, graphic design, ceramics, and calligraphy. I continued my art education in college where I took drawing and several design classes and was set to major in graphic design.

After I completed an internship in graphic design with a major airline company, I decided I would rather teach children than work for a large corporation. I changed my major and received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After graduation, I taught 2nd grade for a year. Then, I spent a year and a half teaching art classes from my home. I went back to teaching elementary school and taught in the Wasatch School District for over six years. I love the kids! Being a lifelong learner, I just completed my Masters Degree from the University of North Texas.

In 2022, I decided I missed teaching art and wanted to open an art studio. And so began Inspiration Haven Art Studio. I, with the help of my husband, opened my first studio in April of 2022 in Heber City. Through a lot of hard work and determination, we grew the business. We offer kid’s art classes, paint nights, birthday parties, private parties, and more!

In early 2024, my husband and I decided to open a second location in Springville. One of our teachers, Joelle, lives in Utah County and agreed to teach most of the classes at the new studio. It has been a great experience and we are excited to continue sharing the love of art with children and adults.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Opening an art studio gave me the chance to do what I love every day. However, with that came the business side of it as well. Learning marketing, budgeting, and all the other aspects of running a business has definitely been a learning process. We have learned things that work and things that don’t, but also learned to just try new things and have fun. Even when things do not go as planned, we can use them as learning experiences to help us in the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Inspiration Haven Art Studio?
At Inspiration Haven Art Studio, we strive to instill a love of art in anyone who comes in. Whether it be kids coming to our art classes, adults coming to a paint night, or friends coming for a birthday party, we want everyone to leave happy and proud of the masterpiece they created themselves. Our goal is to make art accessible, enjoyable, and empowering for everyone, regardless of age or skill level.

We’re known for creating a warm, welcoming environment where people can be creative and confident. Whether you’re a child trying art for the first time, an adult looking to unwind with a fun and social painting experience, or someone planning a memorable event, we offer tailored classes for everyone that spark joy and creativity.

What sets us apart from others is our commitment to offering personalized and engaging experiences. Our kids’ art classes not only teach techniques but also encourage self-expression, allowing each child to be creative in their own way. Our adult paint nights create a relaxed, social environment where friends can bond over art and creativity. We also offer birthday parties and private parties that are fully customizable to ensure you have a truly memorable celebration.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that art is not only fun and creative, but can offer everyone an exciting, pressure-free environment to express themselves through their work. Everyone, regardless of skill level, can have a great time creating something they never imagined they could do when they first walk in. They leave feeling confident and proud of what they accomplished. I’ve also learned that success of a business isn’t just about what you offer, but about how well you understand and serve the people who come to the studio. It’s about the experience they have, more than the actual art they create.

Finally, I’ve learned that taking risks and stepping outside my comfort zone can lead to some of the most rewarding experiences. Whether it’s trying a new class format or hosting a unique event, those moments of stepping into the unknown have helped shape the studio into what it is today.
