Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Ekmark.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My personal story comes from a background and raising valuing faith, education, sports, and family. I played basketball in high school and went on to play Basketball and Lacrosse at Stanford University where I graduated in 3 years with my engineering degree.

After working at the Boston Consulting Group as a management consultant, I wanted more from life and started a few customer-centric businesses. From attempting to tackle affordable housing to helping predominantly low- and middle-class Americans save for retirement, my fiancée and I have had more fun than we have ever had.

The idea behind Match Your Money came from my experience in minimum wage jobs before college. I noticed it was incredibly hard for my coworkers to save any money, and very few even knew what a 401K was or how to save for retirement. In college, I planned to start my company then, but I lacked experience and investors.

In my experience at the Boston Consulting Group, I noticed almost every corporate employee utilized that match that gave them a massive leg up on the everyday worker. With that in mind, we have created a company that truly attempts to benefit all and helps workers understand as well as fund their 401 Ks.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. Each and every week we pivot on one thing or another. We’re constantly redesigning the site to make it easier to navigate. We’re consistently changing our products and offerings for customers as we’re learning most lower income workers don’t know what 401K’s are.

We’re taking the shots well though and hopefully we will pull through with customer confidence. It has certainly been an adventurous startup!

We’ve been impressed with Match Your Money, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Match Your Money is a financial company that offers customers the ability to fund their 401 Ks who work for a company with a company match. We also offer the option to fund without a company match if their income is low enough.

We generally provide funding for our customers to put money into their 401K account and after gaining the employer match, they can repay us at a later date and split the profits. Our average customer looks to gain between $800-$1,200 per year after all fees, which is something we’re really proud of.

We can completely change lower- and middle-income earners’ lives with our product and services. We’re very friendly and walk our customers through the entire process.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory was going to Disneyland, where I later proposed to my fiancée!
