Exploring Life & Business with Andrew Lindsay of Clear River Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Lindsay.

Andrew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Becoming a therapist was, in many ways, born out of my own struggle to open up. I often felt like I had support around me—people who cared, who would have listened—but there were parts of my inner world that felt hard to put into words. Some experiences felt too complicated, too vulnerable, or too burdensome to bring into conversations. I knew what it was like to sit with thoughts and emotions that didn’t feel fully shareable. That quiet tension—between having support and still feeling alone—shaped my desire to become the kind of therapist who creates space for the things that feel hardest to say.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. For the first year and a half, things were really slow. I was building my practice while working another job forty hours a week, which meant I was stretched thin and constantly dividing my energy. There were moments of doubt—wondering if it would ever gain momentum or if I was cut out for this. At the end of last year, I made the decision to leave my old job and focus on therapy full-time. It felt like a huge risk to walk away from something stable, but I’m so glad I did. Since then, things have been growing and running much more smoothly, and I finally feel like I can give this work the time and presence it deserves.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Clear River Counseling is a growing private practice focused on helping individuals navigate some of life’s most challenging and personal struggles. Right now, I am the sole therapist in the practice, which allows me to provide highly personalized, consistent care. My hope is to thoughtfully expand in the near future and bring on additional therapists who share the same values and vision.
I specialize in working with unwanted pornography use, out-of-control sexual behaviors, ADHD, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Much of my work centers around college-age students, and I recently moved office locations to be more accessible to students attending Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University. This population is navigating intense developmental, relational, and identity transitions, and I’m passionate about supporting them during that formative season of life.
What I’m known for is creating a space where clients can talk openly about the things they’ve often felt too ashamed or afraid to bring up elsewhere. Many people struggling with compulsive sexual behaviors or pornography use carry deep shame. My approach balances compassion with accountability. I believe clients are the experts on their own lives—they know the rapids they’re facing. My role is to sit in the raft with them, help them read the water, and develop the skills and clarity needed to get where they want to go.
That philosophy is captured in the slogan: “Navigating Life’s Rapids.” At Clear River Counseling, therapy isn’t about me steering the boat while the client passively rides along. It’s collaborative. It’s values-driven. It’s about building resilience, direction, and long-term change—not just temporary relief.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the intentional culture I’m building: steady, honest, and growth-oriented. Clear River Counseling is a place for people who are serious about change, who want to live in alignment with their values, and who are ready to move forward—even when the water feels rough.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is canoeing down the Green River with my parents and siblings, surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins. There was something unforgettable about drifting along the water together—laughing, paddling, stopping along the banks, and feeling completely present. It wasn’t just a trip; it was the beginning of my favorite hobby shared with my favorite people. Those days on the river shaped my love for adventure, family, and the kind of connection that only comes from navigating the current side by side.
