Today, we’d like to introduce you to Annalise John.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Annalise, a psychotherapist and dream consultant with a solid social work and psychology foundation. My academic path started at the University of Hawaii – Hilo for my undergrad, followed by a master’s in social work from the University of Utah. After finishing my studies, I spent six years practicing in Minneapolis, my hometown, honing my skills and gaining valuable experience in the field.
In 2022, I moved back to Salt Lake City and established Rivercourse Counseling. This move marked a significant step in my career, allowing me to apply my years of experience and training to support my clients in a setting close to my heart. My practice is focused on providing tailored therapeutic services and dream analysis, with a commitment to helping individuals navigate their mental health and personal growth journeys.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey to where I am today has been guided by a passion for understanding the nuanced tapestry of human emotions and behaviors, combined with a deep-seated desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of young women.
The path hasn’t been devoid of its twists and turns, but it’s these very challenges that have enriched my practice and my ability to connect with and support others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I often describe my therapy practice as a unique blend of traditional therapy techniques and life coaching, tailored specifically for young women facing the complexities of life, such as anxiety, ADHD, and the general ups and downs of young adulthood. My background, with a Master’s in Social Work from The University of Utah and licensure as an LCSW, has equipped me with a diverse toolkit that goes beyond the standard therapeutic approaches.
My approach is highly individualized, recognizing that the challenges we face are as unique as we are. I incorporate several methods to create a holistic and effective therapeutic experience. These tools allow me to address a wide range of issues, from managing anxiety and self-doubt to interpreting the deeper meanings behind dreams – which, by the way, are often more revealing than one might think.
Dream analysis is a significant aspect of my practice. I view dreams as a window into the subconscious, offering invaluable insights into our inner workings. Whether in therapy sessions or through dream consultations, we explore these narratives to uncover what’s happening beneath the surface.
I aim to provide a supportive, understanding environment where young women can navigate their challenges without feeling alone. It’s about being that reliable, somewhat sarcastic confidant who’s not afraid to tackle life’s messier bits alongside you. So, if you’re seeking a space to understand yourself better, manage life’s stressors, or simply explore the meaning behind your dreams, you’ve found the right place.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
One of the aspects I truly cherish about Salt Lake City is its mountain views. There’s something incredibly grounding about being surrounded by nature’s majesty on such a grand scale. I also appreciate the small city vibe it offers. It’s this unique blend of community and intimacy you don’t often find in larger cities, making connecting with people and the environment easier. And the people? They’re genuinely warm and welcoming, which has made settling here all the more enjoyable.
However, like any place, Salt Lake City has its drawbacks. The air quality, especially during winter, can be a concern. It’s a stark contrast to the natural beauty surrounding us, which I find challenging. The political climate is another aspect that doesn’t always align with my views, which can sometimes be disconcerting. And then, there are the drivers—navigating the roads here can be quite an adventure in itself, and not always in a good way. Despite these issues, my fondness for the city’s positives significantly outweighs the negatives, making Salt Lake a cherished home to me.
