Exploring Life & Business with Billy Hales of Bills Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Hales.

Hi Billy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Billy Hales, I’m 25 years old, a wife, and a proud mom. My beauty journey started early, I knew I wanted to go to cosmetology school when I was 13. I enrolled in cosmetology school when I was just 17 and graduated in 2018, only two months after finishing high school. I’ve always had a passion for helping people feel confident and beautiful, so right after graduating, I decided to dive into the world of eyelash extensions. I found a mentor, learned everything I could, and soon after became the proud owner and lash artist behind Bills Beauty, which I opened in August 2018.

I live and work out of my childhood home in Fairview, which my husband and I were lucky enough to purchase two years ago. Over the years, I’ve always looked for ways to expand my services and offer more to the amazing people of Sanpete County. About three years ago, I decided to add body waxing to my skill set. Something I’d been curious about for a long time. After a lot of convincing, my own waxer finally agreed to mentor me, and after just one training day, I was hooked.

A few months later, she reached out and asked if I’d be interested in buying her business. Without hesitation, I said yes and that’s how I became the owner of Bare Bum Wax, based in Utah County. It was a big leap, but one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Today, I proudly run both Bills Beauty, serving clients all over Sanpete County, and Bare Bum Wax in Utah County. From lash extensions and lifts to full body waxing, my goal has always been the same; to create a comfortable, uplifting space where everyone leaves feeling their absolute best.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting and owning a business is never smooth. There’s always going to be lots of ups and downs physically emotionally, and mentally. But I would have to say building a clientele and just getting my name out there was probably the hardest part of it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 7 years.
I specialize in lash extensions, lash lifts and turns and full body waxing.
I think the thing that sets me apart from others is my personality. I don’t try to hide who I am to give my business a different appearance from who I actually am. I’m very real and honest with everyone in my life.
I think the thing I’m most proud of is the level of quality i give in my services. I’ve had a lot of people who moved away for school or something and came back and said they couldn’t find anyone who could do their lashes as good as I did. That statement from those clients just feels so good to hear. To know I’m providing such a positive experience.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for anyone starting a business is to keep pushing. Push your name out, hang up fliers, business cards whatever you have to do to get your name out there.
