Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Johansen.
Hi Brittany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Aloha! Hello! Hola! Bonjour! I’m Dr. Brittany Johansen, owner and founder of Alpine Airway Wellness. For the past three years, we’ve been dedicated to serving Utah Valley and beyond, helping patients breathe easier, sleep better, and thrive. Our office was designed to be a warm, welcoming space—especially for the many children we treat—because we believe healthcare should feel as comfortable as it is transformative.
As an airway-centered dentist, I focus on treating patients with sleep apnea, sleep-disordered breathing (for bot children and adults), snoring, TMJ pain, and crowded or crooked teeth. Dentistry is so much more than just creating beautiful smiles—it’s about optimizing how we function. Our mouths play a vital role in eating, speaking, singing, and, most importantly, breathing. When we guide proper craniofacial development, we can help patients unlock their full health potential, creating ripple effects throughout the entire body.
My passion for airway-focused dentistry began several years ago when I took my first course in this niche area of dentistry. I called my husband on the way home, eager to share everything I had learned—and I haven’t stopped talking about it since! This approach is a true paradigm shift from traditional orthodontics and craniofacial development, and once you recognize the signs and symptoms of airway dysfunction, you can’t unsee them. I’ve seen firsthand how addressing airway health changes lives, allowing patients to breathe, heal, and thrive in ways they never imagined.
I believe the best care happens through collaboration, which is why I work closely with like-minded health professionals to provide a truly comprehensive approach to treatment. At Alpine Airway Wellness, we’re here to make a difference—one breath at a time.
If you’ve ever wondered how airway-focused dentistry could impact your life or the life of a loved one, we’d love to meet you. Give us a call to schedule a complimentary consultation and take the first step toward better breathing, better sleep, and better health.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a practice from the ground up—especially in a niche area of dentistry—has certainly come with its challenges. Taking the leap to create my ideal practice, where I could bring my vision to life, was both exciting and daunting. Balancing the clinical side of dentistry with the demands of running a business was a whole new world. There were the usual hurdles of a startup—developing new systems and protocols, navigating insurance, and ensuring everything was in place for our grand opening. Each step required careful planning, problem-solving, and a fair amount of persistence.
Beyond the logistics, being progressive in dentistry often comes with speculation and questioning. Airway-centered dentistry is a paradigm shift, and new ways of thinking can take time to gain widespread understanding. But I truly believe in this approach and have seen firsthand the life-changing impact it can have. That belief, combined with the unwavering support of my family, friends, and the incredible team at Alpine Airway Wellness, has made all the difference. Looking back, taking that leap of faith was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The challenges have only reinforced my passion and commitment to helping patients breathe, sleep, and live better.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Alpine Airway Wellness?
At Alpine Airway Wellness, we do things a little differently—in the best way possible. We are the only practice in Utah solely dedicated to airway-focused dentistry, and our approach goes far beyond straightening teeth or fixing smiles. We take a whole-body view of dental care, understanding that proper airway development, jaw function, and craniofacial balance play a crucial role in overall health.
Every orthodontic case we take on is approached with the goal of improving airway health, joint stability, and overall body alignment. One of the unique aspects of our practice is the cranial work I incorporate into treatment—a technique taught to me by a chiropractor whose wife is a dentist. By blending these two philosophies, we help bring symmetry to the face and improve function. Additionally, we have an in-house myofunctional therapist, ensuring that oral function, breathing patterns, and muscle balance are optimized alongside our treatments.
Beyond our airway-focused orthodontics, we offer a range of specialized services, including NightLase® (a non-invasive snoring treatment), laser facial aesthetics, sleep apnea treatment, TMD therapy for jaw pain, and solutions for sleep-disordered breathing in children and adults. Every treatment we provide is designed to create health beyond smiles, helping patients not just look better but feel and function better, too.
What truly sets us apart is our patient-centered approach. We take the time to listen, to understand each individual’s needs, and to craft a treatment plan that is truly customized. We also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the most comprehensive care possible.
At Alpine Airway Wellness, we’re passionate about what we do because we see the life-changing impact it has every day. If you’ve been searching for answers to sleep issues, jaw pain, or airway concerns, we invite you to experience the difference for yourself.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on this journey is that there is always more to learn. You don’t know what you don’t know—but if you stay open, curious, and willing to adapt, the right knowledge and opportunities will come your way. I’ve learned to trust my intuition, both in business and in patient care. When your intention is truly to help, you find a way—whether that means continuing to learn, seeking new perspectives, or collaborating with others to get the best outcome.
Building a strong professional and personal network has been invaluable. Dentistry, like life, isn’t meant to be done alone. Having a community of like-minded professionals to share knowledge with has been a game-changer, and I’m grateful for the incredible people I’ve met along the way.
And above all, I’ve learned that kindness matters. Whether it’s with patients, colleagues, or even yourself during the tough moments—leading with kindness and integrity always paves the way forward.
