Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Kopelson and Susan Kofford. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Susan was first introduced to massage by a friend back in 2001. It immediately sparked an interest in her, and she became very curious about bodywork and alternative healing. Susan began doing research and leaped at the chance to become a massage apprentice. In 2002, upon graduating from her apprenticeship, Susan started her career working at Mt. Timpanogos Women’s Clinic, where she offered prenatal and infant massage. It wasn’t until she had the opportunity to massage at a Ragnar relay race that she fell in love with sports, structural, and therapeutic massage. Over the years she’s honed her skills and has become one of the best. In 2015, Susan’s daughter Cheyenne decided to follow in her footsteps and began a massage apprenticeship, studying under her mother. When Cheyenne began she knew she wanted to help people but wasn’t quite sure that massage was the right path for her. Regardless, having grown up in a home where massage was used to treat many physical and emotional struggles, she figured it wasn’t a bad place to start. Shortly after beginning the apprenticeship, Cheyenne knew she had found her life’s calling.
Over the past 7 years, we have enjoyed working together and traveling around to attend continuing education classes. We’ve pushed each other to become better healers and have sat in awe together, reminiscing about the lives we have changed for the better. Starting our own business was always an idea in the back of our minds; we used to talk about it every once in a while and daydream about how we would change the world one great massage at a time. In August of 2022, we viewed a space for lease; it was built in the 70s and shared a receptionist desk and waiting area with a chiropractor. We fell in love with it instantly. It was scary making that first jump but everything fell into place once we did. We found three exceptional students to be our apprentices and the clientele continues to grow weekly. It was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever made; it felt and still feels meant to be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If we’re being honest, opening this business has been one of the easiest things we’ve ever done. The office we currently rent practically fell into our laps. Viewing the space for the first time to booking our first clients took us a little over a month. Looking back, it’s incredible to see all that we accomplished in that first month; signing a lease, registering the business, spending way too much money on furnishings, opening a business checking account, learning how to work a new booking system, and publishing a website. Overall, our business’s smooth opening resulted from strong teamwork, passion, and community support. These are all key elements that any business can benefit from and they have helped us to establish a thriving business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Harvest Massage & Wellness is the dream of a mother and daughter coming to life. We’ve always wanted to create something magical; a space for people to gather, heal, learn and flourish. A place people look forward to coming to and feel renewed when they leave. In August of 2022, we took our first step towards making this dream a reality. A few factors set us apart from other massage and wellness businesses. One is the wide range of services we offer: Swedish, deep tissue, ashiatsu, apprentice, couples, cupping, hot stone, prenatal, sports, structural, Thai yoga, and essential oil massage. Offering a wide range of services allows our clients to tailor each session to their current needs so they leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. All of our therapists have over 1000 hours of experience and are invested in the wellness of their clients. We are very passionate about our work and feel honored to be in a position to help people heal in many ways.
Can you share something surprising about your business?
We believe that people are made up of three parts. You have your physical being, your mind, and your spirit. To be well, all three of these parts must be in balance; this is one of our core beliefs and why we offer more than just massage services at Harvest Massage & Wellness. Along with massage, we also provide life coaching services and foot zoning.
A life coach is a wellness professional who helps people implement positive changes to improve the quality of their lives. Our life coach received her certification from Achology and has received certifications in both Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT); she specializes in relationship building and marriage & family unity.
Foot zoning is a form of ancient alternative medicine and has been practiced around the world for centuries. It involves your therapist pressing on the nerve endings in your feet that correspond with different areas within your body. Foot zoning is used for several reasons and has many benefits. Its primary purpose is to calm the body and all its systems to encourage it to return to a healthy state.
We are incredibly grateful to have found our calling and are excited for the opportunity to share our passion for massage and wellness with others. Our business has become more than just a way for us to make a living; it’s a way for us to make a difference in the world.
