Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire & Russell Lindsay.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband, Russell, and I are entrepreneurs who came to the United States from South Africa 25 years ago.
We heard about TheHomeMag from friends who had started the franchise in Tucson and were immediately intrigued by the possibility of having a business dedicated to helping other people grow their businesses.
We started TheHomeMag in Colorado 15 years ago with the mission of helping businesses to grow and thrive by connecting local home improvement businesses with qualified homeowners.
Starting any business in 2008 was a daunting prospect, but we have the most loyal clients, and it has been a joy to help them to prosper. When the opportunity arose to purchase TheHomeMag in Utah we were thrilled. Utah is booming, and we saw the opportunity to grow an already well-respected, well-established business.
We now mail our magazines to 200,000 homeowners every month, and we have so enjoyed meeting so many wonderful business owners in the Wasatch Valley.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some people laughed at us and told us “Print is Dead”. They believed the internet was going to completely replace print, however, we believed otherwise.
There is a level of trust that readers have with a print that they don’t have with online materials, and savvy business owners know they need to have both in their marketing portfolios. Covid was a scary time, with contractors not being allowed inside people’s homes.
We spoke to each and every one of our advertisers and told them that we would do whatever it took to keep them going strong. I am so proud that every one of them has stayed with us, and they have come out of the pandemic stronger than ever.
As you know, we’re big fans of TheHomeMag. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
TheHomeMag was started 20 years ago in Cape Coral Florida. We now mail to 9,500,000 homes a month in 30 states. I am most proud of our brand promise, which is to “Clear the Path to Make it Easy”.
Everything we do is with the aim of making it easy for our talented advertisers to thrive, from designing fabulous ads that make their phones ring, to providing them with a consultant who genuinely cares about their business and wants them to succeed.
We are the most targeted direct mail option in the market, and we reach homeowners who not only can afford our advertiser’s services but when they call they are ready to make a purchase.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe in the mantra “The harder you work, the luckier you get”. My best luck was meeting my fabulous husband 25 years ago, and being a partner not only in life but in business.
