Exploring Life & Business with Coulton Main of Midway Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coulton Main.

Coulton Main

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Right now, we are four Jerks (think soda jerk, or not). This rabble’s qualifications include CPA (woah), D1 athlete, firefighter, investor, marketing pro, style genius, MBA (they smart), coffee guru, director of strategic partnerships, real estate broker, and general POS (the devil’s advocate).

It all started with Jerk #3, the coffee guru. He followed his passion for the perfect cold brew & hasn’t signed up for a single CE credit since! Jerks #1 & 2 brought the mini donuts & #4 man the rudder. We opened our first cafe Oct. of 2022. It’s inside a beautiful co-worker space Kiln, in downtown Salt Lake City. Our second cafe opened just this week! It’s in front of a gorgeous & delicious restaurant Salt & Olive.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We started an event-based cold brew coffee & donuts business in February of 2020. Most of us would say that was near the beginning of an interesting journey of a global pandemic! We’ve had to pivot several times. Each of these has led to an additional revenue stream for our business as a whole.

We now have two cafes, shipping of cold brew coffee concentrate anywhere in the US, events, & “Micro-Cafes” (standalone kegerators in businesses around Utah). We’ve had to be incredibly scrappy! It involves fun events, & outright fighting with each other. The journey here has been a battle & fulfilling!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our main goal is to make amazing coffee fun as hell!

If you leave our shops with that in mind then we did our job. We use expensive coffee but focus on our customers having a good time. We feel like everyone should be able to have delicious coffee without a snobby experience.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Salt Lake City is such a rad place to be! It’s nestled between a high desert & tall mountains. Such a great place to be for so many types of hobbies. We’re running out of space though!
