About Twenty years ago, my craft obsession began with a little ol’ sewing machine. I started by making quilts and clothes for myself and my daughter, indulging in the endless possibilities that different fabrics offered. My love for sewing grew as I tackled every quilt block imaginable, then documenting each creation on my blog, www.DelilahThomas.com.
The sound of my sewing machine was music to my ears, so when my mother-in-law introduced me to her new embroidery machine, I was so impressed with the way the needle and thread moved, I was instantly hooked! I knew I needed one for myself. I found a used Brother Innovis 2500D and began embroidering everything I could get my hands on. Sweatshirts quickly became my favorite project because they are practical and useful for anyone.
Custom embroidery has a special place in my heart because it allows me to create something uniquely personal. I started by making “mom” and “grandma” sweatshirts, stitching children’s names on the sleeves. It brought so much joy to me as I could see there heart smile when they picked up there order! That sentimental value I created for my customers made me realize I could turn this passion into a business.
As time went by people were sharing my creations with others which brought in more orders so I invested in a multi-needle embroidery machine, streamlining the process enabled me to create custom orders more efficiently. Today, I embrace the joy in making personalized sweatshirts as well as merchandise for local small businesses that bring smiles to so many faces.
In addition to running my business, I have a YouTube channel where I teach sewing and embroidery techniques. It has grown beyond my wildest dreams, my videos have inspired over 1.5 million people to be creative. My goal is to encourage and inspire others to find joy in creating all things handmade.
While I could spend all day in my sewing room, I always remember the importance of balance. I love my family and although it would be easy to spend an entire day in my sewing room I make time for them and cherish those moments just as much as I do my craft.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With machine embroidery comes a high cost and a learning curve. You have to invest in thread, stabilizers, hoops and material to stitch on. There have been times when I stitched a design on backwards, upside down, or the back of the sweatshirt caught in the machine, I have ruined countless sweatshirts but the love I have when a project comes out perfect is what keeps me going.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the culture of Ogden, so many artists of different walks of life who feel comfortable sharing there hobby and talents with others. This type of vibe inspires others to do the same which sparks creativity and reminds us that we all have a common ground.
What I don’t like is the difficulty small business owners face in staying in business. Despite the city’s vibrant atmosphere, brew pubs, and independently owned shops, the high monthly rent makes it challenging for small businesses to thrive. Many owners struggle with balancing their expenses, and not generating enough sales often forces them to close their doors. While Ogden’s community is strong and supportive, the financial pressures can be overwhelming for entrepreneurs trying to make their mark. This issue impacts the overall stability and diversity of our local economy, which is why addressing it is crucial for the future of our city’s small business landscape.
