Exploring Life & Business with Devin & Ashley Cobb of Cobbs Book Nook

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin & Ashley Cobb

Hi Devin & Ashley , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We have always been deeply passionate about books as they offer a window into different worlds, perspectives and ideas. Growing up we both found comfort in libraries and bookstores and we wanted to create that magic for others. In world where most things are digital now, we thought going back to physical copies would be great. Creating a bookstore is more than just about selling books; it’s about building a space where people feel welcome, curious and inspired. In addition to offering a wide selection of books, we wanted to host events that bring people together, including book clubs, author signings, and Dungeons and Dragons sessions. DnD is a perfect way to combine story telling, creativity, and community, and it aligns beautifully with the spirit of imagination that book inspire. Whether it’s cozy reading nooks a shared table for adventurers, or simply a space to meet like minded people, we envisioned the bookstore as a hub for readers, gamers, and dreamers alike. It’s about fostering a love of stories in all forms and giving people a place to explore, connect, and feel at home. We’ve been able to continue this from the amazing support from our community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first year of running a bookstore comes with its share of challenges, but we view them as opportunities to learn and grow. One significant challenge is building awareness and attracting a loyal customer base. In a world where online shopping is so prevalent, it’s essential to establish the bookstore as a unique and valuable community space. To address this, we plan to focus on creating engaging events like book clubs, author readings, and even Dungeons & Dragons campaigns to bring people through the doors and create memorable experiences.

Another challenge is managing inventory effectively. Balancing the right mix of genres and titles to meet customer demand while avoiding overstock is critical. We plan to address this by starting small, closely monitoring sales trends, and actively engaging with customers to understand their preferences.

Lastly, maintaining financial stability during the early stages requires careful budgeting and strategic marketing. By leveraging social media, partnerships with local schools and businesses, and word-of-mouth, we aim to build a strong presence in the community while keeping costs under control.

While these challenges are real, they’re also exciting because they push us to be creative, resourceful, and adaptable as we work to make the bookstore a thriving space.
