Exploring Life & Business with Alex Cancino, Edgar Zavala, and Eric Zavala of Diamond Perfection Home & Property Inspections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Cancino, Edgar Zavala, and Eric Zavala. Them and their team share their story with us below:

As first-generation immigrant business owners we have had a fair amount of obstacles at the start of our business, given none of us have had the previous business experience but we had the drive to bring forth this company. Diamond Perfection has 3 owners Alex Cancino, Edgar Zavala, and Eric Zavala. All three are from a small town in Michoacán, Mexico called Casas Viejas is a small municipality named Puruandiro. Alex was born in this Municipality and Eric and Edgar are Utah natives born and raised.

Nonetheless, all three are relatives, Edgar and Eric are brothers and Alex is their cousin. Alex originally being raised in California moved to Utah in the Summer of 2018. In California, Alex was going to school to become a lawyer and this is what sparked the move to Utah as he was going to attend Westminster College as a Pre-Law Major. While in California Alex was performing home inspections and upon his move to Utah stopped for a brief moment as the franchise-based company’s values did not align with his. During this time, Alex was working at a medical clinic and doing inspections here and there, at this time he talked to Eric And Edgar who were plumbing at the time, and asked if they wanted to Embark on this journey together and open up their own home inspection business.

They both agreed and the three of them were eager and driven in the startup of this business. Although Alex was working full time and going to school full time, and Eric and Edgar were plumbing full time and going to school as well they found time and survived through their first year in business in 2019. This drove the Diamond team to do an analysis of the current situation and market need for home inspectors and pushed them to dive in 100% of the way. They all left their full-time jobs in early 2020 and dedicated all their efforts to Diamond Perfection Home & Property Inspections. It was a tough journey starting from scratch leaving their full-time jobs mid pandemic but they rose to the challenge nonetheless.

The team was determined to make their name known in the real estate realm in Utah and they did just that. Analyzing the market need and finding ways to fill those needs was a key factor in the success of the team. They saw and filled needs as the market changed they adapted to it. Driving one another as business partners but more importantly friends. Keeping a close friendship also helped fuel the success of the team by putting forth a new sense of respect and accountability to one another in a way they had not experienced prior to this venture. They came together and all brought their previous experiences in life and business and shared them with each other.

Alex’s experience in Retail, Management, Customer Service, and Edgar’s infinite knowledge of the plumbing trade, and his Customer Service expertise, and Eric’s Creativity, and ability to think outside the box, with his own well of information and deep knowledge of the plumbing trade all came together and facilitated the day to day of the business using one another as tools to learn and grow day in and day out.

The team plans on taking any and all measures to continue their growth and providing the quality service they have been providing these past couple of years, for years to come. They would like to thank their community and anyone who has attributed any type of help to ensure the growth and success of the company.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some obstacles in the start-up of the company are that they come from a Latino background where a lot of the time they are unknowingly programmed to think that anything they do or start is bound to fail. Setting limits and barriers to their progress and success. Although they saw strong support from their community and loved ones it didn’t change in their heads what they were conditioned to think until they decided to step out of their comfort zone and focus on their mindset.

They quickly figured out that if they planned on being successful business owners and home inspectors they needed to believe and embrace it wholeheartedly this meant that drastic changes in their mental state needed to come about. They decided to invest in breakthrough classes and make lifestyle choices that were going to put the team in a positive forward driven mindset facilitating the overcoming of obstacles and barriers that life threw at the team and company. Once they figured this out it did not take long for the team to overcome and all obstacles that came about.

Using creative ideas to take down those barriers and overcome obstacles, bouncing ideas off of each other, and pushing one another to stay on top of things and over everything keep a positive mindset. Like any business obstacles come up on a daily basis but what makes the difference is how long you dwell on the obstacle at hand because the faster you overcome the faster you move forward which is what the team practices and does as these come about.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
