Exploring Life & Business with Erik Butters of Speedmaster Pro Cleaning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Butters.

Hi Erik, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a veteran of the United States Air Force and have an extensive background in finance. In January of 2018, I decided it was time to make a career change. Finance was just an endless churning of numbers with no true tangible results. When goals were met, it was off to the next month, quarter, and so on.

I was seeking a job that had a clear beginning and end and that would make a difference in people’s lives. My military background taught me to be clean and organized. It was a good fit for me personally. I immediately decided on creating a cleaning company, but not just any cleaning company. I wanted to create a unique company that offered cleaning services however the true mission is about people.

At Speedmaster Pro Cleaning, we understand that people’s homes are where it all starts and ends. We understand the emotions that go into buying a home or moving into that new apartment. Studies have shown that cleanliness makes people happier and less stressed, so our mission is based on people! Initially, Speedmaster Pro Cleaning started in post-construction cleaning working with home builders.

We offered a one-stop-shop solution by offering not only cleaning services but also included power washing and window cleaning. That made us very popular with new construction and remodel home builders. We’ve also expanded into working with real estate agents and property managers to offer move-in and move-out cleaning along with carpet cleaning.

We also offer commercial post-construction cleaning and janitorial services.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road from where we started has been relatively smooth. The biggest hurdle was creating a system that created the desired outcome. Which vacuums do we use? Which brooms deliver the best results? What chemicals do we use or don’t use? These were all questions that needed to be resolved in short order. The biggest challenge for any business is the human component.

Every process we have requires human thought and touch! The cleaning industry had an 80% annual turnover. With that statistic, you’ll never get out of training mode. I made it a goal to pay a minimum wage of $15, the national average cleaning wage is $10.80. Again, people are our number one priority and that includes those that work for Speedmaster Pro Cleaning.

So in short we’ve had few obstacles and I attribute that to the people who make up the team. I simply couldn’t ask for a more dedicated and professional team that believes in our mission and each other. As of today, the biggest struggle is simply keeping up with all the work.

We have a 5-star rating on Google and a very strong reputation within the industry we’re always growing.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like the atmosphere that Salt Lake City provides. I grew up here however I moved to the east coast in 1987. I relocated back to Salt Lake City in 2010. The city has certainly grown and offers a lot to its residents.

My dislike is with all the population growth, the infrastructure has a difficult time keeping up with the demand. Roads and highways are very crowded. As well water is a big concern with the population increase.
