Exploring Life & Business with George Outlaw Music of Outlaw Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Outlaw Music.

Hi George, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Inspired by the unique scenery of the cliffs around Moab and especially Castle Rock we had several musician friends stop by and inspired by the scenery and vibes the composed new and exciting works.

We decided to expand and build a formal studio where musicians can come, be inspired, work in a state of the art studio and experience many unique recreational activities between sessions to relax and to re-charge their creativity.

When designing the studio we worked with many accomplished professionals such as Soren Wittrup (R. Kelly) and Tom Lord-Alge (Wheezer, Rolling Stones) to design and equip the studio.

Our vision is to hosts established professional artists but also to make a certain percentage of our studio available to new talent free of charge that typically can not afford to record in such a facility and provide coaching to enable them to become successful artists.

We also provide promotion and label services to artists not currently signed.

Our studio has video facilities and we we can live stream any recording session, We also have plans to add a rehearsal area where bands and artists can practice for upcoming tours.

We offer to produce the songs that artists wish to record and songs that we produce typically generate a large number of streams on various streaming platforms.

In addition to music recording we also provide Voice Over and ADR services and we have worked on multiple film projects and documentaries.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We started out immediately prior to COVID and encountered setbacks. A new studio manager that had previously managed a major studio and record label in Chicago decided not to join due to the uncertainty.

We had an agreement to purchase a historic ranch and we were planning to use the bunkhouses as guest quarters for our visiting artists but the seller backed out during the closing process and we currently have to rely on nearby hotels for accommodations but we offer hookups for tour busses and RVs.

Home recording is becoming more established and this has impacted the industry. But many artists also realize the shortcoming of a home studios and we are seeing an increase in hybrid work where artist combine studio session and home recording for best results.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The founders have a love of music and they have produced records with local artists and also Grammy winning legends.

We have recorded many genres: Blues, Rock, Americana, Latin, Folk, Rap and Country.

We prefer to work with artists that produce music which are not run-of-the-mill hit mills but rather creative and inspiring and we strive to assist new talent to break into the industry and succeed as long as they are willing to put in the effort to make quality music.

As mentioned before we pride ourselves of offering artists to produce their music also our label services through a sister company. This is especially beneficial for new artists to often struggle to give their songs a “finished feel” but sometimes even experienced bands look for input when producing songs and records.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We are located in the countryside outside of the city of Moab and a short distance from Canyonlands and Arches national Parks. The nearest city is Moab which is a tourist town. Not sure if the town itself is any inspiration but the town and area is home to many artists, photographers and writers.
