Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasenia Allen.
Hi Jasenia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After graduating high school, I enrolled in an esthetician school in Salt Lake. Going to school full-time and working part-time was challenging, but I was excited to begin working as an esthetician. Right after graduating, I was able to begin working with a national waxing company and enjoyed all the people and the experience of meeting new people. It was surprising to discover that I enjoyed it even more than I realized.
A few months after working for the national organization I was offered an opportunity to begin working as an independent contracting esthetician with a local salon. This provided a great opportunity to learn about how to not only serve clients but to develop and retain them. It was at these two locations that I learned our unique approach to waxing which we use at Bad Bee Waxing.
Our approach is not only three times faster, but also much less painful and with little to no after-effects. By waxing in the unique way we do clients no longer dreaded coming into get their wax, but look forward to the clean freshness it offers. Working as an independent contractor was remarkably rewarding and added to my excitement to serve.
Forever I will be grateful for working with such wonderful people and mentors.
As an independent contractor, I realized how rewarding running a small business can be. It took me some time to muster up the courage to simply break out on my own. Here is when I discovered how important positive self-talk is to all of us – especially me at that time. Some of my clients are reputable and successful businesswomen themselves.
With their support and encouragement, I finally opened up to Bad Bee Waxing and have been so grateful for the support of all the clients we have served so far. Our clients are not only the lifeblood of our salon, but they bring the fun and the means to be in the service industry. At Bad Bee Waxing, each person is important and has our full attention.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is a universal truth that life will take our plans and dash them upon hard times and struggles. Sometimes once and sometimes they may be dashed many times.
My first struggle was learning I was pregnant about the same time I started esthetician school. It was hard to stay focused at times and to have the energy and physical strength as I was finishing school and beginning to work full-time waxing people. While unplanned, the pregnancy turned out to be the perfect blessing for me. With the support and love of friends and family, I was able to finish and begin this career path. It is my little boy Winston who inspires me and drives me and fills me with energy and hope.
It was surprising to me how honestly scared I was to open my salon. I kept going over all the possible failures I would either encounter or create – I was even panicked at times. Luckily, there were some great clients who I was able to open up and with whom I could talk honestly with. They shared their own stories of doubt and fear and finally broke through them to open their businesses.
How grateful I am to those who mentored, encouraged, and were there as friends, being moms and businesswomen themselves. Thank you ladies for pushing me to believe and move forward.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We provide a soothing and smoothing full-body waxing experience. Our unique approach brings waxing into the new millennium because it is no longer a painful and tearful experience. While we are most famous for our bikini wax, we also provide the following services:
1. Arms
2. Legs
3. Back
4. Underarms
And more! Full body.
Our location is directly across from the University Mall so you can get your wax and because you will be feeling great you can directly to the mall after your wax to get those clothes and outfits to make sure you look as good as you feel.
What does success mean to you?
Good question. Success is measured in different ways throughout our lives and in what part of our lives we are speaking about. Speaking just of our business, we define success by the number of repeat clients we have and how much business we get from word of mouth. Long-term, we hope to grow our process and approach to waxing into more salons so other women may feel the satisfaction of a more comfortable and cleaner wax of their bodies. We believe everyone has the right to:
Bee Confident,
Bee Beautiful,
Bee Sexy,
and to Bee Better.
The more people we help to feel these feelings, the more successful we feel in people’s lives.
