Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Cope

Hi Kara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Rocky Mtn Great Dane Rescue has been helping Danes and Dane mixes since its inception in the year 2000. I was introduced to them at a park here in SLC where they had volunteers and their Danes meeting people and introducing the rescue. I was gifted my first Dane through RMGDRI by my wife when I turned 50 years old. I’ve been a volunteer Fundraising Coordinator with the rescue for 12 years now; Rose made me want to.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge for the rescue is having enough fosters to support the dogs coming into rescue. We, as a team are constantly looking for people interested in fostering. We had something like 8 Danes come into rescue with us in a week, recently. We have fundraising events regularly to bring funding in to help these Danes in foster homes. We are always looking for new ways to raise money and awareness for our rescue. .

We’ve been impressed with Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
RMGDRI rescues, rehabilitates and re homes Great Danes and Dane mixes who have been abandoned, neglected, abused or are in need of a new home. We cover 13 states and all of our volunteers work from home so every dime we bring in goes straight to the Danes in foster care with us. We have no overhead so the support stays with the dogs. We bring the Danes in, get them medical help (neuter, spay, vaccinations and any other concerns are addressed) get them to a foster home asap then onto a forever home. Our website changes quite often with available Danes of all ages. We have placed over 2300 Danes since the year 2000! I am proud to be a part of this rescue as we work together for the best outcome for these rescue Danes.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I loved dogs from my first memories as a child. My mom taught me well how to be responsible and caring as a kid especially for animals. I grew up advocating for animals and wanting to make a difference for the pets in need. I loved big dogs always as I was bullied as a child for being so small. The big dogs are my reason for living. I love planning events for these Danes and I enjoy the support we get from our community.
