Exploring Life & Business with Kinzie Madsen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kinzie Madsen.

Hi Kinzie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been artistic and into business. I thought I would be an interior designer when I “grew up.” Things took a different route. I took a design class in high school, and … HATED it. But luckily, I had a teacher who saw my potential and talked me into taking another class from him. That next semester I feel in love with design. I went on to college, failed all my classes, lost my scholarship, and couldn’t afford to keep taking classes. I decided to get a job designing and go back to college later and ended up learning more in my career than I learned from any college class.

After moving up the corporate ladder, I realized I was working towards a dream that wasn’t mine. I quit my job with no plan, no savings, and a pile of credit card debt, and after a year of trial and error, I managed to build a successful design business. Over the next few years, I’ve shifted to business and marketing coaching as well as building an educational company where we’ve taught nearly 2,000 students online how to build businesses and create their dream realities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish! Haha. Actually, maybe I don’t? Every step along the way has sort of felt like a failure. Disappointing launches, wondering how I was going to pay my rent or my employees, doubting myself and what I’ve built. But with each moment that I doubted, the confidence I built as I showed myself I was capable was worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Kinzie Madsen LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in business and marketing education, but I teach it in a way you’ve probably never learnt before. I’m anti-rules, pro-self-empowerment. I believe the most important thing to do as a business owner is build a business that supports YOU. That you love to show up in.

I teach through online programs and also do 1:1 business coaching and group masterminds.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a bossy, introverted, know-it-all. 🙂 My first tattoo I got was “Bossy” because I used to feel so embarrassed of how bossy I was, but now it’s a strength!

As a little kid, I was really focused on showing up how others needed me to show up for them. I was a major rule follower and wanted my teachers and parents to be proud of me. Once I reached high school, all of the rule-following caught up with me, and I turned into the exact opposite. It’s like my true personality was finally ready to be seen!
