Exploring Life & Business with Kira Wilde of Mind Soul and Body, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira Wilde.

Hi Kira, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Mental health has been the driving force behind my yoga journey. A pivotal moment came when I had been working in the career of my dreams for six years as an elementary school teacher, and had driven myself to the end-game of complete burn out. It was at that time that I began a physical yoga practice, and through this process was able to start my own healing journey. I learned how to reconnect to myself, to my intuition; to learn when to say no and when to say yes, to realign my energy and start to find balance in my life.

Stepping into my first 200-hour yoga teacher training was much more than learning a new skill, or becoming qualified to teach a yoga class. It was the start of something new – and yet nostalgic and familiar at the same time. I taught yoga at a corporate fitness club for four years and loved it, but it started to feel hollow. When you really start to dive deeply into the study and philosophy of yoga, you learn that it is so much more than a sweaty workout. It is the ultimate (and underrated) holistic mental health and wellness tool. I decided to begin the process to become a certified yoga therapist to be able to offer a deeper integration of the true practice of yoga into the lives of people seeking greater mental and emotional health.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t believe any path is smooth, even when it is the right path. One of the biggest challenges has been the stigma yoga has of only being a 60-minute practice you do in a gym for physical health. Yoga is also a spiritual practice, and for many people in Utah, that can be a big concern as they may equate a spiritual practice with religion. In truth, they are different. Yoga is a spiritual practice because it helps us connect with the divinity and deep knowledge we each carry within us through the wisdom of the body and heart. It is different for each of us. A religious practice is one where we hold deep belief systems that we have in common with a larger group of people. These two practices, spiritual and religious, can often work synchronistically with each other, yet I have found a lot of people are scared away from yoga because they think it will clash with their religious beliefs.

Another area of struggle is trying to break out of the typecasting for what a yoga practice is, and helping educate people that it is more than a workout. Yoga asks you to do work and to get to know yourself – your reactions, thought, habit, and behavior patterns – and how to use this understanding as a catalyst for a true metamorphosis of our life experience.

As a small business owner, just getting the word out is hard, too! There are several options for yoga studios, both boutique and in big box fitness clubs. So one struggle is definitely trying to differentiate from the sea of offerings.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
