Exploring Life & Business with Kristen Rockwood of Studio 7 Interior Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Rockwood.

Hi Kristen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had an interest in interior design, since I was a little girl. I took classes in college and moved across the country to Virginia where I became the county designers assistant for a few years. Moving back to Utah and buying our first home was a fun outlet for my hobby. I started having neighbors and family members asking for design help, which turned into me designing rooms to getting design referrals. I started having a client load where I had to license my business, Studio 7 Interior Design. I have now been in business for 9 years and am focusing on home renovations. I find immense joy in working with homeowners to create a home that reflects them and their lifestyle.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a slow and steady road. I have purposely taken a smaller load while I raise my family. I chose the name Studio 7 because 3 of my children *HAVE* 7’s in their birthdays. Baby #4 broke the mold but 3 out of 4 works for me since 3+4=7. 🙂

I have had the opportunity to work with the best clients who have given me referral after referral. I have only marketed Studio 7 through Instagram and 99% of my business comes through that platform. It is growing steadily, I am grateful for how *FAR* Studio 7 has come!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Studio 7 specializes in budget-friendly, high-style design. Having been trained on the east coast taught me how to keep the integrity of a home and learn how to marry styles seamlessly and make houses feel like home to my clients. I love working with any style to create a place my clients have been looking for.
Some of the bigger sync placements I’ve had: Batwoman, MasterClass, shows on MTV and Hulu, and SyFy. Also been signed by Armada for an EDM track. More news to come with the trailer music. And for ads: an Italian fashion ad and nutrition supplement ad.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Kindness always wins. That there are enough jobs for everyone. I have become friends with many designers locally and nationally. It has been wonderful to gain those relationships and support and learn from some of the best, while paying it forward to some aspiring designers.
