Today we’d like to introduce you to Levi Culley.
Levi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, my older brother battled cancer for many years, and he beat it twice! When I was 18 years old, I chose to serve a church mission in Honduras for 2 years, and about halfway through that mission, my sweet brother called me with the news that he was once again diagnosed with cancer although this time, there were no options to fight it.
He was given 3 months to live, so I came home early from my mission and LIVED with this awesome brother of mine. This time in my life was super difficult because I was putting my life on hold to be a full-time caregiver for my dying brother, although it gave me a lot of time to reflect and decide what I truly wanted to do with my life.
I had the blessing of spending the last 3 living months with a fantastic man and I will forever be changed. The massively important lessons I was taught by watching a man live like we were dying inspired me to spark a change and to become more alive as a person!
Growing up I honestly thought that I was less important than the rest of the world, I thought that I didn’t have what it takes to be successful and happy. The message I received from the world growing up with a dying brother was that I was invisible and less important. There was evil limiting energy that followed me every day telling me to “be quiet, you’re a burden”.
Thanks to God and my incredible brother Riley, at the most crucial time in my life I learned to LIVE, to take life by the horns, to dream big, and never let negative energy steal the happiness that is rightfully mine! As soon as Riley parted from me, I started my business, Invictus Floor Coatings named in honor of mine and Riley’s favorite poem “Invictus”. I have always liked the construction and loved epoxy floors. Growing up I spent more time in the garage than any other room in the house, it has always been my haven for my passions and hobbies.
I began installing epoxy garage floor coatings for some neighbors and friends and quickly learned that there is great money to be made in this industry, I sat down and made some CRAZY big goals for my business for that upcoming year. I ended up CRUSHING those goals during my first year and I quickly decided that Invictus is truly going somewhere.
Today I’ve been in business for 2.5 years and we’ve been extremely blessed to see the growth that we’ve seen. We have an office and warehouse, 5 employees, and a full-time installation crew and we are producing about 13 epoxy floors every month. I am 22 years old and after pouring my time and passion into my business with the confidence boost, I received from my brother, I am now financially free to do more of what I love and to give back to the world in the ways I choose! I am alive, I am confident, and I know that I have what it takes.
I’ve come a long way from the unconfident, scared, and weak teenager I was. Today, I wake up and live as if I were dying. I know how to live, laugh, love, and chase my dreams as if it were my last day on earth. Happiness is yours, take it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most difficult thing in business ownership so far has been the pressure of having employees that depend on you for a check and a fulfilling job. When I hired my first full-time employee we all of the sudden out of nowhere had no work lined up. I trained him and had him doing odd jobs around the office. I did absolutely everything I could do to find work and it evaded me.
When our calendar was officially empty and I had no work for my employees, I texted them to not come to work that day. I remember that morning waking up with so much pressure and stress on myself that I completely forgot to shower for the day or eat breakfast, I worked so frantically that day at the office till midnight that I had completely forgotten to eat!
I was holding my gut in pain and sending out quotes on my laptop, yet I was so stressed that I didn’t know what the pain in my gut was from nor the recollection to realize that it was hunger that I felt! Thank God for miracles, the next day I closed on two weeks worth of jobs for my employees and we are still busier than ever.
