Hi Maeli, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
For years, I flourished as a star salesperson in the cutthroat door-to-door industry. It was a demanding profession that pushed me to my limits, but it also brought me a profound sense of accomplishment and financial security. The thrill of closing deals and the camaraderie with my colleagues kept me energized and driven. However, fate had a cruel twist in store for me.
One seemingly insignificant misstep during a training session with a new hire drastically altered the course of my life. I suffered a debilitating injury that left my left leg paralyzed, confined to a wheelchair for nine arduous months. The medical community was perplexed. Doctors offered no clear diagnosis or glimmer of hope for recovery. Their blunt words rang in my ears – the possibility of never walking again, of never fulfilling my dream of teaching my young daughter to dance, weighed heavily upon my heart.
During those dark days, despair threatened to consume me. The vibrant, active life I had once known seemed like a distant memory. My sense of purpose and identity were shattered. The future stretched before me as a bleak or uncertain landscape.
Those nine months were the darkest of my life. The pain was unrelenting, and the career I’d built was suddenly out of reach. With two young children (ages 4 and 7) depending on me, the weight of responsibility felt crushing. I felt lost, questioning everything – was this all there was? Had I wasted years of my life, only to lose it all?
As my world continued to turn grayer and grayer as more medical bills kept stacking up themself. The amount of over $120,000 – an impossible mountain of debt – for a surgery that did finally fix me. But now I have to learn to live with the burden that the cost of me walking again was going to be losing our house. I watched my children pack their favorite toys into boxes, too young to understand the weight of what we were losing. Each box felt like another piece of myself chipping away. Was every dream I’d held for them, for myself, going to crumble like this? Yes , yes it was. We humbly moved back to Utah from Temecula California and moved in with family. With really nothing but suitcases our dog and our two kids. This stress ripped apart our beautiful family, my husband of 10 years now a painful memory.
Rising from the Ashes: A New Beginning
But a strange sense of clarity emerged as I hit rock bottom. My mother, who had bravely left a religious cult to give me a chance at a different life, wouldn’t have endured such hardship for me to simply give up. I owed it to her, my children and myself to create a better life. A deep conviction washed over me – this wasn’t the end, but a turning point.
With renewed determination, I prayed for guidance. I knew events in our lives happen for a reason, but I desperately needed a sign, something to show me why this was happening. The very next morning, as I tearfully drove my kids to school, a seemingly random real estate investor trainee sign caught my eye. This sign was yellow and had the ugliest handwriting on it – it screamed “unprofessional”! But something inside me said to call.
I’d always loved the idea of real estate investing but assumed I needed significant savings to get started. Now, that dream felt laughable. Yet, desperation propelled me to dial the number.
In that transformative moment, a single act of courage unlocked a world of possibilities. The workshop I attended was a revelation, presenting stories of people from diverse backgrounds who had achieved remarkable financial success through real estate, often without substantial capital or credit. A surge of hope filled me as I realized this could be my path too.
The workshop introduced me to a proven system, the concept of passive income through rental properties, and the accessibility of education at minimal cost. It ignited a newfound purpose within me: to embark on a journey of real estate investing, helping others escape financial hardship.
This path aligned perfectly with my existing strengths. I have always had a deep love for people and a knack for problem-solving. Leveraging these skills, I dove headfirst into the world of real estate, determined to make a positive impact.
Seven years fast forward, I found myself in a beautiful paradox. The journey that began with a courageous leap of faith led me to my soulmate, my mentor, my business partner, and my best friend – all rolled into one extraordinary person Mitch Nelson. Together, we embarked on a mission to empower others through the five pillars of wealth. Self development, business, banking, taxes and real estate Investing. We established a thriving business, sharing the proven system that had transformed our lives with countless aspiring investors. It has been an incredibly fulfilling journey, witnessing individuals from all walks of life achieve financial freedom and create a lasting legacy for themselves and their families.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The night I left the cult is burned into my memory as vividly as if it happened yesterday. Sarah, the “first wife” – a title, not her name – had vanished weeks earlier. In my sprawling family of 22 siblings and five mothers, Sarah’s prolonged absence was a seismic event, sparking a whirlwind of hushed speculation. When news finally arrived that she’d left the faith, the rage in my father’s eyes was unbearable. The unspoken rule hung heavy in the air: to abandon the family was to be casted out and forever damned.
That very night, a ceremony was to be held. My mother, the second wife, was to be ordained as the new Sarah. I watched her, radiant and poised, a queen in waiting. But as the prophet spoke, a chilling revelation unfolded. Instead of my mother, he declared the fifth wife the most worthy. My mother, a picture of grace, quietly exited the room, and I followed.
In the weeks that followed, I witnessed my mother unravel. Whispers circulated, questioning her worthiness because she had failed to bear my father a son. A cruel irony, as I, her only child by her and my father, was deemed insufficient – not a son of God, and therefore unworthy.
But that night of rejection sparked a transformation in my mother. She declared that no one would dictate her value. With no money, credit, or guarantee of survival, we left the cult. We faced the condemnation, the prophecies of failure, the looming curse of a vengeful God. Yet, my mother held onto an unwavering faith – a faith in herself and in her daughter. My mother would shout at the top of her lungs, I would rather sleep on dirt than to have someone tell you my princes that you are not worthy enough.
The challenges were immense. Due to my isolated upbringing, I didn’t enter a classroom until the age of twelve, illiterate and socially stunted. I endured relentless bullying, but the silence forced upon me an unexpected gift. I became an observer of human nature, learning that most conversations are a dance of egos. If you ask questions, people will engage. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care
