Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Tobian.
Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have enjoyed an extensive career in many different areas of the business world and have lived a fun and exciting life.
Music Career
– Performed and taught saxophone at a young age while still in high school.
– Went to byu on a music scholarship and while there won several national scholarships and awards for solo work at national jazz festivals. While in college, had a full teaching studio of private students.
– Taught as a professor at byu, teaching classes that included the jazz lab band, saxophone quartets, jazz combos, private saxophone lessons, saxophone masterclass and jazz combo masterclass.
– Was the head of the Utah Valley University Jazz Department and taught all the jazz classes. Also organized and ran the uvu jazz festival.
– Authored the textbook “fundamentals of jazz improvisation” used at byu and uvu.
– Artist on the jazz hang record label.
– As a musician, has performed with celebrity artists and Grammy winners all over the world.
– Owns Utah live bands, a premier music production agency that has won 38 best of state awards and has been in business since 2005. Utah live bands represent some of the finest corporate events acts in the world and has started and managed dozens of bands and performance groups in all different styles. As a performer, Michael has traveled all over the world including France, Monaco, Spain, Turkey, Portugal, Mexico, The Caribbean, Hawaii, Canada and all over the United States.
Business
– Has owned the following businesses: Utah live bands, empire casino parties, dinosaur events, slaplaughter.com, morning rain cleaning solutions, cuddle couch and platinum pictures photo booths in addition to ownership in several bands and entertainment acts.
– Business broker for over 13 years, selling businesses and doing business consulting with alpine business brokers.
– Recognized by Utah Business magazine as one of the “40 under 40” Utah business leaders in 2021.
– As a business broker, won sales awards from the ibba (international business brokers association).
– Licensed real estate agent and realtor
– CBI (certified business intermediary)
– Former member of sag-aftra (the screen actors guild)

– Enjoys skiing, golfing, cooking, traveling, poker, fine dining and musicology.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has been full of ups and downs. Sometimes very large swings but when I get kicked down, I tend to work harder and think bigger and use the opportunity to learn and prepare for the next upswing. Many people won’t do that but it makes all the difference.

Utah Live Bands provides world-class entertainment for luxury events. We specialize in High-end weddings, celebrity events, convention entertainment and large outdoor concerts; however, we have something for all budgets.
We have grown consistently over the last 17. The COVID pandemic in 2020 was devastating for us and almost all of our events canceled or rescheduled; however, we are proud to have hired more people during that year, grown our networking and marketing efforts. 2021 is the strongest year we have ever had.
We are proud to be a preferred vendor with event planners and venues, not only in Utah but all over the world. In 2021, we celebrated having received a total of 38 Utah Best of State Awards and our owner, Michael Tobian was recognized in Utah Business Magazine as one of the year’s “40 under 40”.
