Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In March, I celebrated 10 years in the United States. I have lived in Orlando, Florida, Austin, Texas, and for almost three years now, here in the state of Utah. I feel incredibly grateful because this is a wonderful place to raise my daughter, Brianna.
I’ve held various jobs: driving for Uber, working with Amazon, as a receptionist, and even in construction.
Sugarland was born out of necessity but also out of love. As a single mother, I faced the challenge of finding a way to provide for my daughter, Brianna, while being present in her life and building a better future for both of us. I wanted to find that balance between work and motherhood without giving up on my dreams.
One day, while discussing my options with my family, I fondly remembered my first job in Venezuela as a children’s party entertainer. The laughter and energy of the kids always filled me with joy. Those memories sparked an indescribable emotion within me, pushing me to take the first step toward creating my own business.
I wanted it to be something special—something more than just selling a product. I decided to innovate and build a project that would allow everyone, regardless of age, to feel like a child again.
Through a mix of flavors, colors, and creativity, I set out to transform cotton candy into something magical: favorite characters, unique designs, and a special touch that makes every event unforgettable.
This is how Sugarland began—a project that aimed to offer more than just sweets. I wanted to provide unforgettable moments because, at the end of the day, what better way to relive childhood memories and share happiness than with cotton candy?
Sugarland isn’t just my story; it’s the story of many mothers who know what it means to fight for their children and turn love into a driving force to build something extraordinary. It’s more than a business; it’s proof that dreams, when pursued with love and effort, can become reality. And this story is still being written.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting this venture was not an immediate process. It required patience, persistence, and a lot of practice. I began at home with a simple machine. Learning to combine flavors, colors, and textures quickly became my passion. Each day, I worked to perfect my technique, and little by little, I was able to create figures and characters that delight both children and adults. Although I am still growing and building recognition, every step is an opportunity to learn and move forward.
What started with threads of sugar is becoming something much bigger. Now, in addition to our customized cotton candy, we offer mini pancakes and additional services for events and children’s parties, such as balloon decorations, fast food catering, cakes, face painting, and piñatas. Each of these elements is designed with the same goal: to create magical experiences and bring joy to every celebration.
Today, I look back and see everything we’ve achieved. Sugarland is a reminder that even in the face of challenges, creativity, dedication, and hard work can open doors and turn dreams into reality.
