Exploring Life & Business with Nick Uthe of GrandTaiga Apparel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Uthe.

Hi Nick, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At around 16 years old, I remember getting excited about business, growth, life, philosophy, and whatever curiosity wormhole I could throw myself into. Most, if not all, of these pursuits, have led to major ah-ha moments and greater self-discovery.

At Nick Uthe Media, I’ve worked as a consultant, influencer, and digital nomad with the intention to inspire others to do more and live free! At GrandTaiga Apparel, I’ve helped promote enterprise-level outdoor brands across the country and developed an epic mountain-inspired Men’s apparel line. I’ve designed mobile apps, web applications, and e-commerce stores. As of late, I’ve enjoyed being a part of the team at Bean Trailer, the fastest-growing teardrop trailer company in the country based right here in Salt Lake City!

I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t working on something BIG!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I grew up in a rural town in Wisconsin with less than 300 people. I had to get creative to survive. The road has been inexplicably difficult but there isn’t much fun crossing a smooth road. I think it’s important to have strict ownership over our individual life choices.

Pursuing success like many things is a paradox. Assuming we conquer our goals if we pursue a difficult path, does that mean we are innately drawn to the repercussions of the said path? Doesn’t that then make the path easy knowing we don’t have another choice? Just something to think about.

The struggles have included crossing family, friends, societal, mental, and financial barriers. To put it rather unromantically, there isn’t much room for social-relational docile fuzz, to move up effectively when you started at ground zero. I feel like I’ve packed a few lifetimes into my young 27-year-old life so I’m incredibly grateful and passionate about helping others get moving to find their unique spark too!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At GrandTaiga we make premium apparel and outdoor gear inspired by the active lifestyle Utahans live. It’s an integration of sport, curiosity, mindfulness, and art. We have wind jackets, graphic tees, hats, and most notably our bandanas, which have been our most popular item throughout the last year. Our aim is to be a household name in beautiful Salt Lake City.

If you look at the Wasatch Mountain Range the Grand Fam is most likely recreating up at high elevations at any given moment! We’re most known for our adage, “Face the Unknown.” We do more than we say and live inspired.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have a wide array of interests and passions. I often go to bed disappointed that there aren’t 48 hours in a day. I’m pretty obsessed with recreational competition and garage sports. If I had enough time to become a professional ping pong player, billiards phenom, or poker player I would.

Who knows, maybe someday I will.
