Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Bennett.
Hi Rob, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been in the I.T. industry for 35+ years now. I’ve worked for corporations, government, the private sector and tech firms. The one thing I noticed in all my years in the field is that individuals, families and ma and pa businesses didn’t have the same access to the huge tech resources that many large companies have with their staff of I.T. professionals to draw on. So I decided about 6 years ago to form a tech company that would give those same kinds of resources to the individuals, families and small businesses who just need some help when they need it. Like the old country doctor who would carry his black bag around to people’s homes and hand the kids a lollypop while taking their temperature, I would create a mobile repair business where people could use my I.T. experience to solve their tech problems by making house calls to their homes and small businesses. And thus, The Family Computer Doctor was born and boy have I found a segment of the population that is underserved in this area! People are clamoring for help and sometimes just want to ask a knowledgeable person about a computer or tech question who knows based on experience what they are really talking about. And it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to be able to access them. This is what brings us to what I do for people like you – today!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting established is always a challenge. Advertising for a small start-up is hard when you don’t have a lot of capital to draw on and just hope that your business idea is what the public will actually want and patronize. But I’ve found that I could commit all of my day’s resources 24 hours a day to just helping people with their tech issues and being an advisor and answering questions for everyone else, and I’ve found this to be incredibly fulfilling. Meeting and working with just regular people – many of which start off their conversations with me with “Now, I don’t know very much about computers . . .” – is what I’m there for, and I enjoy every minute of it! Bumps along the road are just more opportunities for me to learn new things and find solutions for everyday problems that many people didn’t even know if their issue could be addressed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Family Computer Doctor is a one-man I.T. support company designed for individuals, families and small businesses to get personalized tech support for their particular issue or question. I specialize in troubleshooting and solving computer and tech problems for Windows and Android devices. I operate on an appointment basis where I am mobile and can come to your home or place of business, or you can come to me in West Jordan and I will work on the issues that you bring to me. I have over 35 years of experience in the tech industry and recognize that a huge segment of our population doesn’t have direct access to an I.T. professional (who is not the smart grandson or the tech guy who lives in your neighborhood). My business is sort of like an E.R. doctor who seems to know a lot about almost everything and can take care of a huge number of things as people go to see him or her when something has happened. There are other tech companies out there who provide similar services, but not in the same way (or with the same total commitment to gaining your trust and keeping it) that I do. When you need someone who really knows what he talks about, call on The Family Computer Doctor and see how I can give you the personal I.T. support you need – when YOU need it!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Saving the world – one computer at a time! And working with people where I can explain how tech things work and put it into terms that YOU individually will understand. Seeing and feeling the appreciation of people when I can show up on their doorstep, ask some questions to get to the heart of the matter, and be able to find and implement a solution – without costing an arm and a leg – makes me look forward to going to work each day!
