Exploring Life & Business with Ryan Maxfield of Agility Customs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Maxfield.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Building Off road Vehicles when I was 18. Things escalated quickly and after learning from some of the top names in the sport for the next 9-10 years I decided it was time to start Agility Customs. As anyone who runs their own business knows the people you team up with the most important part of the endeavor. We have THE BEST team in Utah assembled here at Agility Customs and we can conquer any build you can dream up.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If you ask anyone who has started a small business I think you will get the same answer…… It is never a smooth road and if you feel like things are going smooth you are clearly overlooking something. We have had killer success in the 5 years we have been in business. We have outgrown our shop 2 different times and continue to grow.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Agility Customs?
We specialize in Off-road outfitting and custom builds. We specialize in the custom fabrication/welding as well as the normal bolt-on parts that are synonymous with the Toyota and Jeep Markets. We do Custom offroad buggy builds as well as specialized axle builds and regear services for all makes and models. We have gone out of our way to make sure we offer the best quality job period. With our technicians, they all have specialized backgrounds in different makes and models and fabrication skills. So no matter what job comes in we have the perfect tech to handle that job as quickly and precisely as possible.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid was an interesting time to run a business, in the early days we had no idea what to expect day to day and if the job was going to continue to roll in the door. Luckily we never skipped a beat and with obvious health precautions, we were able to continue on with our day-to-day and continue to keep customers rolling in and out of the shop.

The major hangup that still poses a problem today is supply chain issues. Covid did a number on alot of our suppliers and some of our suppliers are still back-ordered 6 months at a time making getting parts a real pain.
