Exploring Life & Business with Shannon Wilson of Soul to Soul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Wilson.

Hi Shannon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It definitely wasn’t something I ever planned—it felt like a very natural path that unfolded one unexpected step at a time.

After the birth of my youngest daughter, I experienced debilitating anxiety and became determined to find the root cause instead of simply managing the symptoms. That search led me to see a psychic medium—not because I was looking for a new career, but because I was desperately looking for answers.

During that session, she told me I was clairvoyant. At the time, I had absolutely no idea what that meant. My first thought wasn’t, “Great, I have psychic abilities!” It was more like, “Wait…is something wrong with me?” I just wanted to understand what I was experiencing and hopefully find some relief.

Not long after, I met Jeanette Smith, a well-known medium in Park City, who took me and a small group of students under her wing. Every other week for the next couple of years, she patiently taught us how to understand, develop, and responsibly work with our abilities. Looking back, that training changed everything. If it hadn’t been for Jeanette, I honestly don’t think I would be doing this work today. I had zero intention of becoming a professional medium—I was simply trying to make sense of my own experience and get a handle on my anxiety.

As I learned how deeply empathic I was and how to work with my intuition instead of being overwhelmed by it, everything began to shift. What once felt like a burden slowly became one of my greatest gifts. That transformation ignited a passion to help others reconnect with themselves, trust their own inner wisdom, and experience the same sense of freedom and healing that completely changed my life.

Then came Brenda. She was one of my biggest cheerleaders from the very beginning. She started setting up coffee dates with her friends so they could experience a session. One conversation turned into another, referrals kept coming, and before I knew it, this little thing I never intended to build had quietly become a business. I went from meeting clients in coffee shops, to doing readings at a picnic table in Sugar House Park, to eventually opening my first office.

Looking back, it’s been one of the greatest reminders that life doesn’t always unfold according to our plans—sometimes it unfolds according to something even better. The most meaningful journeys often begin with curiosity, a few people who believe in you, and the willingness to simply take the next step.
I’m psychic…but I definitely didn’t see this coming.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no.

There have definitely been plenty of learning curves. I had never started a business before, and I certainly never imagined introducing myself by saying, “Hi, I’m Shannon…I talk to dead people.” That’s not exactly the easiest elevator pitch.

Before this, I spent nearly 20 years in the residential lighting industry. I had built a successful career, so walking away from something stable to pursue something that most people don’t even know how to categorize took a tremendous amount of faith—and courage.

I also had to become comfortable with people misunderstanding what I do. There are always skeptics, misconceptions, and moments where you wonder if you’re completely crazy for leaving a secure career to follow something that can’t exactly be explained on a spreadsheet.

But at every point where I questioned whether I should keep going, the right people seemed to show up. The referrals kept coming, doors kept opening, and it felt like life was gently confirming I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

Looking back, I think the biggest lesson has been learning to trust. Not just trusting my intuition but trusting that if you’re genuinely doing work that helps people, the path has a way of unfolding—even if you can’t see the whole road ahead.

We’ve been impressed with Soul to Soul, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a practicing psychic medium and intuitive spiritual coach based in Park City and Salt Lake City. As a spiritual coach, I help people better understand themselves, reconnect with who they truly are, and navigate life with more clarity, confidence, and freedom. As a medium, I also have the privilege of connecting people with loved ones on the other side, bringing healing, comfort, and the reminder that love doesn’t end with this life.

What I think sets me apart is that I’m incredibly practical and relatable. While my work is spiritual in nature, my goal isn’t to leave people with more mystery—it’s to leave them with more clarity. I love helping people shift their perspective, understand why they operate the way they do, and walk away with practical tools they can use in everyday life. I often joke that my sessions come with homework because I want people to continue growing long after they leave my office.

More than anything, I hope people leave with a deeper appreciation for themselves. My goal has never been to create dependence on me. In fact, it’s the opposite. I want people to reconnect with their own intuition, recognize the incredible wisdom they already have within them, and trust themselves more than ever before. I call it “Operation Liberation”—helping people become freer, more authentic, and more aligned with who they were created to be.

Although I’ve only been practicing professionally for about five years, I think that has actually been an advantage. I didn’t come into this field trying to fit a particular mold or follow someone else’s formula. I’ve simply allowed my work to evolve naturally, trusting what feels authentic and letting my clients shape the direction of the practice. That has created an approach that feels genuine, grounded, and uniquely my own.

In addition to one-on-one sessions, I teach intuitive and mediumship development classes, lead a bi-weekly Mystics group, co-host the Floating Podcast, and this August I’m excited to launch immersive weekend retreats in Huntsville, Utah. Every offering is designed with the same intention: creating safe spaces where people can reconnect with themselves, ask meaningful questions, and experience lasting transformation.

What I’m most proud of isn’t the business itself—it’s the people. There is nothing more rewarding than watching someone discover their own worth, reconnect with their higher self, and begin living with greater peace, confidence, and freedom. Even more beautiful is watching that transformation ripple into their marriages, families, friendships, and communities. When one person heals, everyone around them benefits. Having the privilege of witnessing those transformations every day is something I’ll never take for granted.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t know that I’d call it luck as much as I’d call it grace.

There have certainly been moments that felt incredibly fortunate—meeting the right teacher at the right time, having a friend like Brenda who believed in me before I fully believed in myself, and watching my practice grow almost entirely through word of mouth. Those moments could easily be called luck.

At the same time, I also believe those opportunities only mattered because I was willing to say yes, even when I was scared. Every meaningful step in my journey required taking a leap before I felt ready.

Some of what initially felt like bad luck actually turned out to be the greatest gift. If I hadn’t experienced debilitating anxiety after the birth of my daughter, I probably never would have gone searching for answers. If I hadn’t walked into that psychic medium’s office, I never would have discovered this path. What felt like one of the hardest seasons of my life ultimately became the doorway to the most meaningful work I’ve ever done.

So I guess I’ve learned that sometimes what we call bad luck is really life redirecting us toward something we never could have planned. Looking back, I’m grateful for all of it—the easy moments, the difficult ones, and everything in between—because each one led me exactly where I was meant to be.
