Today, we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Stone.
Hi Stacey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My earliest memories I can remember of enjoying design was when I was young, I was lucky enough to live next door to my Grandparents. They had a playhouse in their yard that we spent hours playing in. My siblings would tease me that I was always cleaning, reorganizing things, and decorating and redecorating them again the next day. That is probably where my love for interior design began. I have always loved interior design and decorating my own home. When I was married at the beginning, we didn’t have a lot of money, so I would order magazines, and rip pages out of spaces and designs that I loved. Then I would shop for cheaper options or DIY things so our home would look like what I saw in the magazines but on a smaller budget. I always had people asking me to help them decorate their own homes, often after they had seen the way I had decorated mine. A huge compliment was when my first home sold, the woman who bought the home wanted to purchase almost all the furniture and decorations because she loved my design and the aesthetic of the home.
I have been very involved in the building of two of my own homes because of this I believe it has helped my knowledge of what goes into the design and construction of a home. I have also managed a furniture store for a few years and loved it. I also did a lot of design jobs during that time I was managing the furniture store.
Because of changes that happened in my life, I had to take a different career path and I landed in finance for 10 years, which I also loved. I feel like my experience in finance goes well with being an interior designer because I have a better idea of budgets. After years of finance, I had friends, family, and others asking me to help design their spaces. So, I decided to take the leap of faith and start my own design business. Being a single woman it was very scary but has also been extremely rewarding. I feel I have been very blessed to be able to wake up every day and do something that I absolutely love and have a genuine passion for. My goal is to make every house into a home, no matter the budget my client has. I want everyone to truly love their own home as much as I do. I do everything from refreshing a room in the home to new build design from start to finish.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my biggest obstacles are, of course, finances; being single and trying to start a business without going into debt is challenging. Also, I am knowledgeable in all areas. Being able to have the computer skills I need. Sometimes, there are too many places or things that need to be done at the time, and it is just me.
There will always be challenges but they are my challenges and no matter what they are I still so lucky to be able to be doing what I am.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I love everything! Designing homes, showing clients the potential of their homes. Picking out finishes. Seeing projects finished.
Only dislike just not getting things done as quickly as I’d like.
