Hi Tate, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A few years ago, after my truck was struck by a drunk driver, I contacted UDOT and the city to determine if any of their cameras had recorded the incident. Unfortunately, I learned that no such footage existed, which left me wishing there had been a centralized source for accident footage. This experience inspired the creation of CollisionCam. We have since installed hundreds of cameras throughout the state that capture vehicle collisions. Our service provides accident footage free of charge to those involved, while insurance companies and attorneys are billed for access.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We collaborate with businesses and homeowners to provide accident footage in the areas we serve. However, obtaining permission from business owners to install our cameras can sometimes be challenging. Most business owners however, are happy to help, as our cameras have two lenses, one of which we give to the business owner to provide additional free security. Additionally, reaching out to crash victims can be difficult, as those involved may not be aware of our service and might not contact us. To address this, we have placed a significant emphasis on our social media accounts to raise awareness and ensure people know where to obtain their accident footage.
