Hi Trevor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for grilling food and serving customers started at a very early age. My father started a catering company in California, which was then relocated to Arizona, and eventually landed in Utah. He started his catering business from scratch on the side to eventually working in that capacity full-time from 1998 to 2015. This was a family run business that my father eventually sold after me and my siblings graduated college and moved away.
As a family, we talk about how much we enjoyed our time working with each other and our dad and it sparked an interest in what my wife and I could create for my own children. I am married and have four boys, so the thought of teaching them hard work and creating similar fond memories became very intriguing.
I started Scott’s Catering and Grill in 2018 and have continued to build upon what my dad taught me. Our business has grown extensively over those years and my kids are beginning to help, which we are all really enjoying. I do this on the side of my day job, but hope to one day be self employed.
We specialize in grilling meats on site to ensure every customer has a fresh meal. Our growth stems from delivering a high quality customer experience and driving SEO through consistent online updates. This has resulted in 68% growth in revenue since 2022.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I feel we have executed well. One of the biggest challenges was finding a licensed kitchen for our needs. We looked into commissaries, but those seemed unfit for what we were needing. We eventually invested in our own home and found an opportunity to expand a separate area on our property that is now fully licensed by the local health department. That took a lot of research and networking to ensure our time and money were being spent wisely. This has been one of the major reasons our company has been performing so well as it resulted in a very low overhead cost to run our business.
