Exploring Life & Business with Weston Spencer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Weston Spencer.

Hi Weston, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I own a small welding shop and an online store where I sell a tool for metal Fabrication the Picket Master Pro. I am also a ski lift mechanic full-time. My company is Salt City Steel LLC.

I started Welding as a kid and at 17 I got my first welding job at a railing fabrication shop. Since then I have always had a Welding side business. I weld railings and fences gates and many other projects. I have been Welding for 20 years now. I really love it. The tool I sell on my website the Picket Master Pro has changed my life I sell it to fabricators and tradespeople all over the world almost all on social media. Instagram TikTok and Facebook.

I really enjoy working with local small businesses and residents in the community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a long road but every year the road gets bigger and bigger. Working 2 jobs can be hard and taxing but so rewarding. I am a father of 3 so with family life and business ownership and a full-time job I’m always busy. I don’t have a lot of free time but that’s ok with me.

I have been very lucky to always have jobs coming into the weld shop. And Picket Master Pro sales.

One struggle is being too busy. So much work as of late I have to turn some work away…

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Salt City Steel LLC?
I am a one-man welding shop I specialize in railing and fence fabrication. Along with any other welding projects that come in the door. My welding shop is only a part-time shop but that can mean 40 hours a week…

I also selling the Picket Master Pro is an equal spacing accordion-style layout tool made for metal Fabrication and Woodworking… I designed and build them and sell on my personal website.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have learned social media is an excellent resource for mentors and networking many people are open to questions and giving advice. In-person you just need to show up and ask questions and work hard.
