Exploring Life & Business with Whitney Holman of Heber Valley Cheese

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Holman.

Hi Whitney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I still remember growing up on the farm, hauling our own hay, milking cows, and doing all the odd farm chores. It’s something that our family has always done, and it was exciting to be a part of even as a child. As I grew and graduated High School, I decided to branch out from the world of farming and get a college degree. I attended Utah State University and Utah Valley University to study nursing, which has always been a passion of mine. I worked as a nurse until the family farm called me back home.

In 2011, we came together to open Heber Valley Cheese as a way to preserve our farm and the long legacy that our family has in the Heber Valley. Many farmers are being forced to sell their land, but we decided to do something different. Turning our herd’s milk into artisan cheese seems simple, but has been a huge undertaking!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had many stumbling blocks as we have navigated the retail world, learning and growing a lot over the past 15 years. It seems there is always a new challenge to face or problem to solve, but I am grateful for the opportunity to work at a place that means so much to our family.

I love that I get to see my 3 boys grow up on the same farm that I did, and live the farm life when they’re not busy playing sports! I have also been able to continue my work as a nurse once a week between my responsibilities at the creamery.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am proud to work beside my mother, siblings, and family members as we operate Heber Valley Cheese. Our cheese begins with the hay we grow on our farm, into the feed we give our prized cows, to the milk collected at our robotic milking facility, and right into our creamery where we make award-winning cheeses. Quality, care, and hard work are at the heart of what we do, and I am always reminded that the smallest things make the biggest difference. We hope you can feel that difference when you try our products, visit the farm, or take a class with us.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Help support Heber Valley Cheese by supporting local farmers and agriculture, stop by the farm for a tour, grilled cheese, or ice cream; and look for our products in your local grocery stores!
