Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Felt.
Hi Alyssa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Southern California with a love for Disney, the beach, and traveling. My parents made “family time” an important priority; so, outings and semi-annual vacations were a part of our family tradition. As the 2nd oldest of 6 children, my mother relied on me to help her, not only with babysitting and household responsibilities but with planning our trips. This also seeped into helping plan my sibling’s birthday parties, as I had a knack for planning fun events. As I helped plan trips and birthday parties into my college years. I learned valuable skills, which allowed me to better understand the events planning industry. I soon discovered that event planning was my passion.
At the time I was applying for college, the school of my choice did not offer any type of Event Management or Hospitality Management major or course of study. I decided to study Accounting, with the intention that it would only help me with starting a business in the future. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from BYU-Idaho in 2016, I worked as an Events Coordinator for a few years and easily fell in love with planning and coordinating weddings. I officially started Dream Weddings by Alyssa in 2019 and it has been growing ever since!
My vision of Dream Weddings by Alyssa is to create happiness in the lives of my clients and those I work with. Our mission is to create your ultimate happiness by planning your event the way you have always dreamed it to be.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never really smooth. There are always bumps along the way, but those bumps continue to teach me valuable lessons to better improve my skills as a planner and a leader. As I have completed more and more weddings, I better understand what should be included in services we provide, how to price out my services, and how to manage a large client load. The COVID-19 epidemic began only 5 months after my business was up and running. This interfered with clients booking my services and cash flow, as my booked clients had to reschedule their wedding dates or cancel altogether. However, this year has been very profitable with all the clients who couldn’t have their wedding in 2020 and part of 2021 booking their weddings.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dream Weddings by Alyssa was born in 2019 out of a passion for helping other people and creating unforgettable experiences. I make the most important events in my clients’ lives be as memorable and enjoyable as possible. Through the many events I’ve hosted, managed, and coordinated over the years, I’ve learned to be flexible and accommodating to each client’s unique needs and preferences. We offer wedding planning and coordination services. We specialize in creating the ultimate happiness in our clients’ by planning their event the way they have always dreamed it to be. Not only do we get the job done, we go above and beyond the “norm” so that our clients can say, “I actually got to enjoy my wedding” (Kira Wallace, 6/18/22). We also try to be competitive in the marketplace by keeping costs manageable for our clients. We want our clients to come away with their dream fulfilled without breaking their bank.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
As one in six children growing up in southern California, I have a lot of cherished childhood memories. A lot of those memories revolve around Disneyland. Growing up, we always had annual passes to Disneyland. My family and I would go to Disneyland about once every 2 weeks on average. Since we went so often, sometimes we would only be at the park for a few hours. So, it was never stressful, tiresome, or annoying to go; it was always so fun! My family is close now because of all the time we spent together playing at Disneyland.
