Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Amundsen.
Hi Angela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to spaces that make people feel something — places where design, comfort, and connection come together. My husband is British, and through our businesses in the UK, we’ve been fortunate to invest in commercial real estate within the Bountiful/Woods Cross area. I helped design and build our own retail strip just off the busy Highway 89 — my first major development project. It took two years to complete and, to make it even more challenging, it all happened during COVID.
It was an incredible learning experience — equal parts exciting and terrifying. Once the project was complete and we started to fill the spaces with national brands, I started thinking about what I wanted to create next!
Having lived in Wales/London and continuing to travel to the UK every couple of months, it immersed me in their café culture — charming, design-forward spaces where people slow down and truly enjoy the moment. That’s where the idea for Plated Dreams was born. I wanted to create a place that felt like an escape from the everyday — whimsical, beautiful, and full of heart.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every part of this journey has been hands-on and full of challenges. Real estate development was completely new to me, and it’s definitely a male-dominated industry. I had to learn everything : construction terms, zoning, permits, and negotiations — all while standing my ground and trusting my instincts in spaces where I was often underestimated.
When it came to building Plated Dreams, I had no background in hospitality. I was uneducated in this industry, no culinary degree or business certification. Just raw determination to create something that was missing from our community. I had to teach myself everything from restaurant design, flow of customers, sourcing materials, POS systems, ADA compliance,
local laws, liquor laws, food safety, payroll and marketing just to name a few! There were sleepless nights, huge financial risks, and moments where giving up would have been easier. But I kept pushing forward, driven by the belief that I could build something beautiful and meaningful.
We’ve been impressed with Plated Dreams , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Restaurants are closing down daily and the ones that remain, are all competing for the same customers. I’m constantly managing fluctuating costs, perishable goods, and quality control from food and drinks to cleanliness and staffing.
Guests expect to see me there open to close 6 days a week hands-on, whether I’m greeting at
the host stand, managing reservations, or making sure food reaches the table in a timely manner.
Other tasks include responding to reviews, resolving customer concerns and navigating the ever-changing world of social media to promote and grow the brand. It’s demanding, fast paced, and unpredictable, but deeply rewarding in the sense of being part of our community’s journey. Guests have celebrated and commiserated milestones in their life with us and we are truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of it! Whilst our core business is Brunch, Plated Dreams venue is available for private rental with or without catering.
To me, success isn’t about perfection — it’s about perseverance. I didn’t start with experience or a roadmap, but I built this dream one challenge, one plate, and one lesson at a time. Today, Plated Dreams stands as a whimsical blend of British charm and Utah heart — proof that with grit, grace, and vision, anything is possible.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We truly value genuine connections and honest feedback over paid collaborations. Our focus has always been on taking care of our paying guests — the people who choose to spend their time and money with us. Plated Dreams was built as an influencer’s dream, and we continue to welcome creators who genuinely connect with our space and brand.
The best way to support or collaborate is simple — come experience it for yourself, share it authentically, and tell others what you love. We value sincere reviews far more than gifted posts, because real voices and genuine support from our community is what keeps Plated Dreams thriving.
