Hidden Gems: Meet Ashton Anderson of be salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Anderson.

Hi Ashton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hair was always my path, just took a minute to realize it was more than a hobby! I was the little kid cutting and coloring Barbie and all my friend’s hair! I was working at an aesthetic school when I decided it was time to finally go to beauty school. Talked with the owner and she gave me the info to Matthew Landis. I apprenticed under him and got my license in 2017, a month before my 21st birthday. I’ve worked for myself for most of my career, working six days a week behind the chair or helping other stylists. I was given the opportunity to take over a salon in early 2021, with the help of a few mentors and a ton of prep I opened be salon in June 2022

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is any road smooth when you are building your empire? Haha, I can’t say it’s been easy but it’s been worth everything bit of hard work and Sacrifice.

In the beginning, I worked for a salon that taught me how not a run a salon, at the time I never thought things could be easy and it would always be catty if I didn’t just rent a room for myself. I got the advice “give it six months and after six months if it’s still awful. Leave. You gave it all you had” After six months I was asked to come to Matthew Landis Atelier, I jumped on the Opportunity! Being there I got to help build the salon and see how when you work in an environment where everyone truly loves and respects each other magic and growth come naturally! Not that it was easy; I was a baby hairdresser renting a booth with four clients! But man was it worth it!! The self-growth that comes from working six days in a salon assisting some of Utah’s best hairdressers and building your dream clientele!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
be salon is a little slice of heaven on 9th and 9th! We specialize in blonding and women’s cuts. We’re also the official salon of ABC 4.

be salon is known for feeling like you’re at your best friend’s house just hanging out! I’ve worked to make sure when you walk in you feel welcome and like you belong, because you do! be salon is for everyone to come and be themselves.

I’m most proud of all of it! I can’t pick one thing, this salon has been my heart and soul for a while now.

Come sit in any of my stylist’s chairs and you’ll be happy!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
“If it doesn’t scare you, it’s not worth doing.”

I said yes to taking over a salon at 25, without a second thought. Just said yes and got to work! Not that I didn’t question along the way during the prep and new learning craves! I’m from a ‘go hard or go home” family but for us, it was always “go hard or go home, but you can’t go home until you’re proud.”
